Bugman's gamecube portable WIP

Thanks. So I bought a new wiikey and it should come in the mail next week, but I soldered all the wires on the motherboard for the wiikey and when I was removing the old wires, I realized that I wired pin 28 to the wrong via. That's got to be why it wasnt working properly. How could I have made such a dumb mistake! Oh well. I'll nail it this time.

The case is painted with a primer and is ready to be painted! I started mounting the buttons too so it wont get as scuffed up after it's painted. After watching the Envision internals video, I decided I wanted to organize it just like that cause it looks way easier. I took some screw posts from a gamecube controller and glued them in. I cut the buttons in half to reduce height and I super glued a piece of plastic to them so they wont fall out of the case too.

I made the A button a bit too small, and the b button is a bit too big, I'll probably fix the b button if I feel like it, probably not though. There is just enough room so that way I can press A and Y at the same time without pressing the b and x buttons which is good. Also, the l, r, and z buttons are just tact switches cause I dont want anything sticking out of the portable so It can fit in my pocket. But they sit right where your fingers want to rest.

Success! After killing 4 wiikeys and 4 gamecubes, I finally have gotten this one installed with no troubles. Really. It worked on the first try I plugged it in and updated it to 1.5 with ease and then enjoyed some Mario Kart. The other times I installed the wiikey, I soldered to the dd capacitors but this time I soldered to the vias cause I was actually planning on getting a new gamecube and restarting haha. It's actually easier to solder to them considering I had to do no trouble shooting. Now for the bad news, The video is really weird. When I first turn on the gc, it's just static but the audio plays fine and the video turns on when I get to the linux menu. I relocated the filtering cap too. I think it's because I'm not using shielded cables and the wiikey is sitting ontop of the video chip for now.

My sister did a bad job painted it so i painted it myself and im happy with the results. I broke my wiikey in a stupid incident but the motherboard still works. The new wiikey will come in the mail on saturday so I'm hoping the controller will be wired up by then and I can finish it in 5min on saturday! This i going to be a really tight fit.

Do I really need the bios battery? Does it do anything besides save the date and time? I'm not sure if I'll have room for it in there.

Good thing I'm not into that game or atleast not yet. I'll defiantly add it if i can find roo, but this portable is going to be pretty small.

Does anyone know what the component on the regulator board is in my pic that is a circle and shiny? It has wire wrapped around it? I need to relocate it inorder to squish the portable together, but it might get a bit un wrapped when removing it. Will this break it?

Thanks. But i guess it doesnt matter anymore because my gamecube isnt working!!! I'm not that upset really because the gamecube was really messy and the regulator board had all the components relocated on it. I'm going to do it again, but not trim the board as much and use custom regulators like i should have been using but i was trying to save some money. I feel like this project is never going to be finished.. Well time to buy another gamecube.. again.

Woah, I haven't been following this project at all. Looks like someone's going to beat me to the gamecube in a gameboy punch. Props man.

Dang college

I really want to give up on this but i know im not... Well i spent all afternoon trimming and wiring up my new gamecube. I wired my wiikey up first using the ffc cable but there was a really strange problem. When I went to the wiikey menu, it would give me an error, and then I pressed A and it would play the first game on the sd card. Every single Dang time!! I then swapped out the wiikey for another one I had around and the same problem. So I ripped the wires off the wiikey and wired it up again, but this time i wired to the traces on the wiikey. That took me like 2 hours. Well when i tested it, it says "The disc cannot be read"!!!! Mother *Can'tSayThisOnTV*er!!!! I'm super frustrated right now at this Dang gamecube and this flax modchip. I don't know what to do with this. I've failed 6(?) times now at wiring up a wiikey.

well i was doing something stupid to my gamecube. I took a look at it after a nap and figured out the problem. It's really dumb so im not gonna bother explaining it. Anyways, i've got a working wiikey fusion gamecube! Now time to finish this bad boy up!!!

So it's basically finished! But my 1.9v regulator isnt working for some reason so i have the original gamecube regulator dangling out of the case just for the 1.9v. This is the 2nd 1.9v reg I've wired up and it didnt work so im thinking it might be my power supply? My soldering looks good on both of them so i dont know what the problem is. In the meantime, I'm gonna play my portable!!
