Bugman's gamecube portable WIP

The 5v regulator is usually for sound if u wanted to, but higher voltages sound better like 7.4v directly to the preamp. The 5v line u can hook on the power pins and from their u can power the disc drive (if using) or if a fan runs on it or ur audio amp.

Well I'm using a wiikey so I guess I dont need the 5v reg. I pretty sure the thinkpad heatsink that I'm thinking about buying can run on the 3.4v reg but Ill find out when i get it.

Ok then. Are you talking about Zenl0cs IBM Heatsink Fan? I'm pretty sure it can run on 3.3v

Add me of Facebook if u want didn't get ur friend request we can talk more in depth if u want.

Its much more realistic that you'll be able to fit everything in there and keep it relatively slim too.

Thats my favorite design too but it was really complicated to design. As you can see below, I had trouble "filling in" the top of the case after I rounded the edge so I went crazy and put a bunch of lines and if I delete any of the lines, it "un fills" the top of the case. Its complicated. I could bring that design back yes, but I would have to round the edges by hand with sand paper, and thinking now, that wouldnt be so bad. I dont see how that design would help keep it slim. Its only like 5 mm bigger than the real gba or so. I would still have to stack the things in the case instead of spreading them out. I do like that design, so I might see what I can do about it.

The new board is half way wired up. I did an omgwtf hybrid cut so I kept the dd caps on so it when i wire up my wiikey, i cant blame it on the wiikey (for the most part) because soldering to those caps is easy.

About 5 seconds after I turn the gamecube on, there is an error saying to check some book. I want to make it clear that there is no dd or wiikey connected to the gc. Is this normal?

okay good. i just want to make sure there isnt something wrong.

Well my wiikey should be here tomorrow and Im gonna wire it up as soon as i get it. I already soldered all the wires to the dd points on the gc.

I got my wiikey just now! So I need to update it to 1.5 after I solder it to the gc. The wiikey doesnt have a serial number on it that I need to download the update from wiikey website. Can anyone share the update files with me? I'm not even sure if it works that way but its worth a try. Maybe this one doesnt even need updating? Idk. I'l find out after I install it

Well I was planning on soldering right to the solder points instead of soldering to the cable thing. But when I tried taking off the connector, I ripped a few traces off and the nice solder points so I soldered to the traces but it was confusing to see which trace went where. So I'm going to consider this wiikey dead. uh.. Now I got to order another one. This is frustrating. How should I go about taking off the connector on my next wiikey? I'm thinking a desoldering braid will do the trick?

My new wiikey came in the mail today! Im soldering to the ffc cable this time. I have half of the ffc cable soldered to and I'm waiting for the epoxy to dry and I'll do the other side of the cable. I'll be able to test this thing tonight or tomorrow depending on how long both sides of the cable take to dry.

I got it all wired and tested! And it semi-works. When I turn the gc on, the error doesnt pop up any more, and when I press the loading switch thing, the red led turns on. Now the gc is stuck on the screen where I must change my setting because I dont have a controller right now. But I'm gonna try to borrow a friend's controller tomorrow and I can get past the settings screen and really test it! YAY! Pics later

hate to burst your bubble, but the red light showing up on the wiikey isn't a good thing really.
oh. lol. i thought it was a god thing that it turned on. so what does this mean?

Im not sure if this wiikey is on 1.5 because this is a 3rd party wiikey from modchipsdirect. Anyone have a link to the download if this is the problem?

I just spent about $200 on supplies including new wiikey, wiikey compatible gc, new case, and 2 5amp lipos. I'm basically restarting.

Here's the case I'm using: http://www.polycase.com/sl-57p#
The dimensions are 143 x 82 x 35mm. I plan to use a spacer so I can fit my batteries in it. It'll probably be around 40mm thickness overall. That's smaller than fusion micro v2.

Stuff will start arriving next week/this weekend so prepare yourself for a huge update!

I have a question.. How do I use the 3ds slider with the original gc controller? Do I need any special components/regulators with it? Or can I just wire it up straight how it is?

That's only 2 mm thicker than the XGC(without batteries holy christ). I would be astonished to see that completed, that is some serious pocket sized gamecube right there. It would be your legacy, so make sure to give it a memorable name.

To answer your question, just wire the 3DS stick straight up. X to X, Y to Y and so forth. Ghost movement is practically non-existant when playing normally. That said, I've got some chips and a programmer coming in the mail and I've been doing a little research; plans are to make the 3DS stick work with a stock 64 controller with zero ghost movement via adjustable deadzone. If all goes well, it shouldn't be too hard(probably easier if I get the deadzone code to work because I wouldn't need the conversion code) to tweak it to gamecube.

Thanks for the answer. If the ghost movement of the 3ds sticks is too unbearable, then I'd probably be interested in some conversion chip if you made them.

40mm is my goal thickness. I think It's totally possible considering I'm going to be using ds lite abxy buttons and those things are really thin. The tallest thing on the top of the case will probably be the screen motherboard. I want to get my hands on one of the ibm heatsinks and they are 8mm thick I think so that will help for sure.

Anyone have any ideas for a name? I was thought of gamecube lite or gamecube go. Idk.

It would probably be a pain in the ass to make a convertor for Gamecube. I know of no way (other than gargantuan mechanical potentiometers) to output an analog signal from a microcontroller.
You could hijack the signals being sent to the Gamecube, but at that point, it would probably just be easier to make a controller yourself, which I plan on doing, but first I need a Gamecube, an oscilloscope, and a lot of time.
