YAP64/2: XCVG's N64p Project

No progress, been working on my battlebot project and playing on my new Dreamcast. But on a somewhat related note, I'm thinking of building a portable Genesis. I have all the parts except a screen, and I couldn't care less about that piece of crap so it's perfect. Then maybe I'll actually be able to sell it for more than $10.

Well I tried to build the shoulder buttons and now I'm really pissed off. The bottom part worked after a lot of fighting but the top buttons just won't work. I really needed those squishy tacts, but now it's too late to order them because they'll take forever to get here, especially with Chinese New Year. So tomorrow I'm going to look for a controller to rip apart for the shoulder buttons. It'll be like the 5th one I wrecked.

And I know the reason for the lack of comments- lack of progress.

Just last night I realized I could have used it almost stock, attaching wires to the weird mylar stuff with conductive wire glue.

This is *Can'tSayThisOnTV*ing ridiculous.

I couldn't find a cheap controller with decent shoulder buttons. Okay, I'll tear apart my other DualShock and glue the wires onto the film contact thingy. But guess what? Couldn't find wire glue, graphite powder, or even liquid tape. I did find a little mini-radio thing with the speakers I needed. Then, when trying to get the speakers out I broke one. Oh, and I can't make ABS cement because acetone was like $7 for a little can and I was like *Can'tSayThisOnTV* that, I'll melt things together with a crappy soldering iron.

Well, I ripped apart my other DualShock and guess what- it's different. This one was much more agreeable, using separate shoulder button units. Easily hacked. Dang Sony, I thought they were the same because they had the same model number. Also, I built a little ghetto rig to discharge my battery, because I do not want to work with a fully charged lithium pack.

Anyway, I'll have to deal with the high cost of acetone, which I'll buy sometime soon. Then I'll begin casework.

You making your own ABS cement? I'd like to hear details on that. How much paint thinner/acetone to plastic, how strong it is, etc.

It's probably so expensive because you're not supposed to pour it down the drain, but people do so anyway... It's like a tax or some flax

Mario, if your wondering about ABS cement I made some for my current n64p I just got a bunch of abs and broke it into small pieces like around 1" square, Then i just put it in a jar and filled it up with acetone, about to the top op the pile of plastic. Then i sealed it off and let it sit for a couple days.

Yeah, I've seen the tutorial, I just want to know a little more on how well it bonds and how strong it is. R00man, have you used it yet? Tell me your results.

Good, good, Mario. Perfect example of using our plan to make members feel useful by "helping" us.

did i say that out loud oh shi

I made some abs cement a while ago to fill in some gaps on my ZN-45 and it's works great, may take a long time to dry but I say it's worth the wait. Also don't use nail polish remover, it makes the abs all gum-like and doesn't bond very well

Yeah, I had the same problem. Never use nail polish remover, just sacrifice what you must to get some real acetone.

Well, haven't got any acetone but I did buy some new speakers, a cheap iPod dock type thing. The good part is that it has a stereo amp, and it's pretty small. It also came with a USB power supply. All for $10.

W00T, got my screen. Funny, they actually let him ship it under the name PalmerTech. Anyway, there's hot glue on the back and loose wires but it'll be fine. Just about the right size for my case, though some would say otherwise. Going to open it and figure out how to wire it ASAP.

SS wired it, not me. ;P They know me at the post office, I am the only guy who is always barefoot, riding a bike, and pays in cash. :awesome:

It seems to work fine. I used a 9V battery to test it, haven't tried video yet. Planning to work on this a lot during the weekend as I have pretty much all the parts I need.
