No Brink podcast so here is my review.
BRINK REVIEW
I’d like to start off this review with a small disclaimer: My opinion is heavily influencing this review, therefore what I think, you may not. Also, my grammar sucks.
Brink was a game that was going to redefine the FPS market. It didn’t have that much hype aside from the occasional TV spot and posters in your local store. In my opinion, Brink is a great game with a great premise but it’s not finished. Why do I say that? I was shown a game that promised to show me a civil war between Security: The guardians of the ARK, given orders by the founders and the Resistance: a rag-tag group of “guests” who escaped to the ark who just want to escape. This did not happen. There were cutscenes and clips of audio when you start but you WILL not understand any of it your first try around. It’s a multiplayer game where I can heavily customize my character to look what I want and use the weapons I want and abilities I want. You have 20 levels and different “Looks” when you unlock a new piece of clothing each color changes what it looks like. The only thing that works is the S.M.A.R.T system. A cleverly named acronym which means: Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain. It works, extremely well. Movement seems to be a big part of this game, and I am glad they didn’t *Can'tSayThisOnTV* that up. You will be doing the same objectives over and over again. Hack doors, blow up doors, stop tanks, repair tanks. Each side is doing the same objective but reversed. If you are hacking, the other team is defending. There are 4 classes: Operative, Engineer, Medic and scotch tape the wires (better than solder imo). The Operative is the spy, the Engineer builds turrets and landmines and is the only one who can disarm bombs and repair anything and built anything. He can also buff teammate’s weapons.. The Medic can revive, buff health, and sprint speed and reload speed. The scotch tape the wires (better than solder imo) is the only one who can plant bombs, he can throw Molotov cocktails and give teammates ammo and himself. The classes are more like TF2 then any other game. The sound is incredibly the guns sound incredibly realistic. If you fire a sniper rifle, expect it to be loud. The guns fire well, the obvious guns do more damage and other have fast fire rates. There’s just enough recoil to make this game balanced. The guns won’t one hit kill you unless you are on the business end of the shotgun. All and all, it’s a multiplayer game faking a single-player campaign like a porn star faking an orgasm. Like objective multiplayer team-based games? Get this. But not now, wait for the *Can'tSayThisOnTV*ING lag to go away. When there is none, the game is great and smooth as Heck.
5 second version: Brink is like the Beta of a promising game, don’t pick it up now. Wait until Splash Damage patches the lag and the first couple of DLCs.
