ModRetro - Huge Server Upgrade

Does this mean chat is coming back?

Who knows, but TT chat is pretty much the exact same thing minus the lag and its been pretty popular.

I'm still having problems connecting to the site... (AM I REALLY THE ONLY ONE!?!?)

Zero, I tried looking online and couldn't figure out how to change my DNS. If you wouldn't mind PMing me or posting here for others to see.

On Vista or Win7, open the Network and Sharing Center, and click "local area connection". (For XP, you can get to the adapter from the Control Panel.) Click "properties" in the new window. Double-click on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)". Click the "Use the following DNS server addresses:" radio button and add in the two IPs for the DNS service you want to use.

Afterward, open a command prompt and enter this:

Code:
ipconfig /flushdns

This will clear your PC's DNS cache, so every domain name you enter will be fetched from the new DNS service.

I'm a macky, but I'll try to do the same thing. thx

edit: I see a bunch of proxy options. Manual proxy config: HTTP proxy, SSL proxy, FTP proxy, SOCKS host:, automatic proxy config URL:

no idea what to do with any of those.

How did you get there?

This is all you should have to touch to change the DNS server setting on any version of Windows since 2000:

Click for full size

This is all through Windows control panels, not browser settings or the Internet Options control panel.

Or don't change anything and just flush the DNS cache.

Yeah sorry Tchay, I don't use OSX much. I'm sure it would be pretty easy to find with a quick search though. Alternatively, you can go into your router settings and just have it use OpenDNS for every PC connected to it by default.

this has started happening (the other issues keep happening also):

I realize a fix has been proposed. But won't this detract viewers and make people think the site is down?? If I'm having this problem, then other people are as well. Just something to note.

No, because again, its likely your DNS. Its not a fix all of us have to do, its pretty much just you and possibly anyone on your ISP that has the same DNS server assigned to them. If its your DNS, there is really nothing that can be done on MR's side.

I'm not the only one apparently. I don't have a good understanding of DNS, but it did seem unlikely that I would be the only person on the planet with this problem :p

Yeah, you and Hifeno seem to be the only ones. Not even the same ISP, so I dunno. If you try the DNS fix we'll be able to at least narrow down whether its that or not.

The links have been very problematic this week. The main URLs mostly. Its hard to even get on the site. Just FYI.

EDIT:

Also, loading took forever when I first tried to logon today.

Just in case someone didn't already clarify this, you're having problems because you're putting "www.forums.modretro.com." It's just "forums.modretro.com."

Thats an automatic redirect. I'm not putting in that URL intentionally.

@Jlee, can you elaborate on that?

People with shoddy internet "records" are blocked.
Ever spammed heavily in places or DDoS'd someone, you could be blocked automatically.

Also, the redirects are old crap I already got rid of once, I just did it again, don't know why the *Can'tSayThisOnTV* they'd be back.
