The Wii Mobo Revealed (56K YIKES)

Wow. How could this be useful though?

If someone wanted to cut off a lot of the Wii motherboard, they would need these hidden traces to make sure that part of the board still gets the proper voltage. This same technique has allowed me to make the Gamecube motherboard much much smaller.

BUMP.

Okay, I need your help. Photobucket will be cutting these photos off in ONE MONTH

Why? Well, I went pro for a month. Just now. Cost me 2.99. But I'm not ganna pay for it after a month.

So I need one or all of you to add these photos to your collection, and then re-upload them.

Here are some pics of my Wii cut with original regulator still intact. You can cut it this far without doing any serious wire relocations.

Wii mobo front view:

Wii mobo back view:

Voltage and video relocation:

Power and eject relocation (front side mobo):

Note if you want to remove the power/standby button all together and just power it on with the voltage power switch wire pin 1 and 16 together. Which will put the Wii in always on mode.

Reset and 3v bios battery relocation (back side mobo):

Note that all components you will remove in the cutting area can be removed without any problems.

I'll try to post as much information as possible the more I trim the board. By investigating the board I can tell you that I will be able to cut it very close to the size of a cut gamecube mobo but we'll see if that will work. It will involve allot of rewiring.

As for power consumption the Wii can be powered at a minimum of 10.2v. Just like the gamecube  The amp draw at 10.2v is around 1.1-1.2A and at 12v 0.9-1A.

Have any questions feel free to ask

Edit: Here's a pic of the board running.

This is pretty awesome! I have a Wii mobo sitting around collecting dust, might as well do something with it. Also, those the Wii boot without the DD?

Jep don't need the discdrive connected. My Wii is softmodded and plays games of an external hdd.
Well, will it boot without anything connected in the DD plug? Mine Wii doesn't seem to wanna boot without the DD connected and Im sure its not dead. :neutral2:

I believe the Wii needs the bluetooth module to boot if that's what you're talking about. Don't know if BootMii or the like could bypass this, but then you'd be stuck with only being able to use the GC controller.

Both wifi and bluetooth modules must be plugged in for the wii to start up. A 3v bios battery must be connected asswell otherwise it won't boot.

As for the discdrive it should work without it. Wii revisions might differ a bit so I can't be certain about newer wii's.

If it works with the drive but not without if that's the only thing you removed you need the dicdrive inteserted or a modchip instead.

I haven't tested the Wii I have sitting here naked right now. But I know back when I was messing with the DVD Drive from my other Wii trying to get it to work with my gamecube, It would not boot games through configurable usb loader without the DVD drive attached. Some of those softmod loaders still make calls/requests to the DVD drive. So even though the Wii will boot without a DVD drive attached, it wont run games via softmods.

Thats just my past experience, and may vary depending on what backup loader you use. Just putting it out there.
