SS's Xenolithic Gratification Cuboid Worklog

Screen came in today; gonna start working on the controller.

Anyone have two BC547 transistors I can have? I need them for the shoulder buttons, and as it turns out my local radioshack doesn't have them.

Might be streaming later.

Didn't feel like streaming. Don't feel like writing either.

Very nice, sir. Question: If you're using slot A for both SD Gecko and memory card functions, do you need slot B for anything homebrew related? I see you've got both wired up, so I'm curious. I haven't actually delved far into the GC software stuff yet.

Controller cut looks nice man, I've also wired a few up like you have to test and everything works nicely so far except rumble. I'm kind of at a loss as to why I haven't been able to relocate that little portion of the controller and have it work. I'm still working it out though.

Heh, I don't care much for rumble, Not a big fan of it in portables either, although I can't say I've tried it. I started the cut with shears, but after cutting just a tiny bit I realized that whatever this particular board was made of, shears wasn't the best tool for the job. BREAK OUT THE MULTIMAX DREMEL AWW YEA. Had that baby cut in 10 seconds flat.

My thoughts on getting rumble to work is a matter of getting a good sanded board scan, I mean, the GC controller is only two layers, so with some clear pics it should only be a matter of finding and reconnecting all the right things, but you knew that. I'll see if I can find an old controller board somewhere; I don't remember seeing any scans out there yet.

Yes(kinda). I'm not sure entirely what each cup of brew prefers, but I DO know that the memory card managers require the SD in one slot and the memory card in the other. I mean, I'm sure a program could be coded to have the save get stored in the RAM and then you just swap out the card and it writes automatically, but I don't know if that exists yet, probably not considering most code is written for (mostly) unmodified gamecubes. Theoretically you could just have one SD slot for everything if you wanted to.

What would be awesome, is if someone could conjure up some sort of small switching circuit, and have the memory cards hardwired in as well as two SD card slots. Using the SD card slot's "sense" feature, you could have it "turn off" the internal memory cards and just use the SD cards.

That'd be ideal. Especially considering how having two SD slots means my memory card is external, I have to find some way to make it non-obtrusive so it doesn't get in the way when I put the portable in my pocket. Probably going to cut an adjacent slot, then plastic this thing up so it's kinda like a big staple. :P

Got me some new tweezers, they are quite nice.

Bentomo posted come sanded board scans a while back. I've been using those for reference. But I retraced everything using my multimeter anyway. The points I've shown to reconnect the "rumble circuit" are the only traces going to that part of the board. I rewired that circuit to an uncut controller using the points I've shown and it works perfectly.

The only thing I can think of is that its got something to do with the little protrusion you've left on the right side of the board, which I've been cutting off because it looks useless, some controllers dont even have the components installed there, or that part of the board has been eliminated entirely.

The only real reason I care to retain rumble is because its useful in some of the Zelda games. Otherwise I wouldn't really give a flax. XD

Oh yeah, it is. The only thing I can think of is the N64 ports, the stone of agony thing. Oh, and there's the thing in WW with grappling treasure...hmm, how could I forget this? Perhaps I should wire up rumble! I mean, I do have 5v, might as well.

Couple more wires wouldn't hurt, I'll try it. I just have to find some tiny rumble motors for later, but for now I'll just use whatever I can find.

So, I've got the rumble relocation working on one of my controllers. Don't ask me what I did, cause I didn't do anything different. Gonna poke at it a bit more and see if I can figure out why its working with this controller and none of the others.
