lyb's GCp worklog ¤Update 17/04/11¤

Re: lyb's GCp (sorta) worklog

since you used a wavebird, i have to ask, did you run it on the battery of the system? It takes around 3 V is that it?

Re: lyb's GCp (sorta) worklog

I didn't use a wavebird in Nathans, purely because of my budget. However, given the complications I had in routing ALL of the necessary wiring through one cable (about 12 wires in total because it was RGB LCD) I would definitely use wavebird the next time. Heck, I'd wirelessly transmit the video too and give the screen half a battery pack, but that's quite an expensive task and very power hungry.

Re: lyb's GCp (sorta) worklog

I am having trouble relocating the memory card slot, what am i doing wrong?
Is there a particular way to do it?
Are my wires not good enough? Please help

*also i tryied with the same wires but shorter and it still failed

Re: lyb's GCp (sorta) worklog

Just to tell you, 2 of those pins are grounded(I think) and are only there to hold the slots in place, they don't need to be rewired.

Re: lyb's GCp (sorta) worklog

Sorry double post but it wouldn't be understandable :dah:

So i managed to relocate my mem card slot, turns out those wires were total flux...
so now i only have to build the case and prep the controller and i'm done.

I also need 7.5V batteries if anyone could point me in a direction (other than batteryspace, i know about that  )

Re: lyb's GCp (sorta) worklog

Hmmm... What country are you in? eBay has some good batteries if you're careful, and IIRC, all-battery.com (or allbattery.com) is a good site.

Re: lyb's GCp (sorta) worklog

Be very careful with those wires. You've got a TON of copper exposed and were any of them to touch, you could fry the thing.

Re: lyb's GCp (sorta) worklog

I noticed :( that's why as soon as possible i'm gonna fill this part with hot glue :awesome:

I live in france, that's why i don't want anything from the USA, shipping from them to europe is usually like 50$, it isn't worth it, but i'll try Ebay france and ebay uk..

Update

¤ Relocated the disk drive using SS's finds on the subject, thanks so much to him :awesome: Even though it took me two times to try, meaning i destroyed a DD board :hit:

¤ Anyway no need to show you pics of the terrible soldering and hot gluing :dahroll:
Btw i'm kinda pissed at my wires for being so rigid, which other wires could i use?

¤ Made some mockups to scale for the mold i'll use for the case, i need your help on deciding which one...

1's screen placement feels a bit worse than 2's but 1's case is really making it all easyier

2's screen placement is the best but design is a bit too funky ::3: and plus the speakers would have to be on the back of the case, and making this project happen with this design would be really harder

So which will it be ? I personnally prefer 1, But it looks so big :? (everything to scale)

this is not really working for me, i want the controller halve to be some kins of stock gc controller with a screen.
This portable may be my only portable ever, because i'll soon have no time for hobbies this time consumming. So i concentrated on what i want :

-quality of gameplay, hence the stock controller (i can't even stand to play on a 3rd party one so i don't even think about making the controller flush with the case)

-quality of display, thus the psone screen, which kinds of conflicts whith the previous wish, because it forces to cut and extend the controller...

-finally i want it a two parter so i can use the controller and screen easily on my wii to play brawl :awesome:

so then it'd have to look like this :

sorry to be writing that much, i got just in the zone :dah:

Re: lyb's GCp worklog ¤Update 18/08/10¤

If that's what you want, then do that. You can't vac form it though, which is what you were talking about.

Re: lyb's GCp worklog ¤Update 18/08/10¤

i don't intend to vac form a gc controller :) i'm not even sure i can even vac form at all.
Anyway i intend to vac form that part :

Then cut some of the left and right part and epoxy the two parts of the controller

Btw, since you're a "case making prodigy" :awesome: and you know your way around vacuum forming, can you tell me if something won't work well with that mold?

Re: lyb's GCp worklog ¤Update 18/08/10¤

That looks ridiculously uncomfortable. Think about where your hands go when you're holding something. Especially something heavy, you can't just use your fingertips.

What about this?

ITT: Beta gets defensive about hating wings on portables because he can't fly. :stare:

Re: lyb's GCp worklog ¤Update 18/08/10¤

Oh, I didn't read that. You're just vac forming that part. Why not cut up an old controller and use it as the actually vac forming mold?

Also, if not, I recommend using a Wavebird controller, since it already has a lot of controller at that point where the epoxy would be.

Re: lyb's GCp worklog ¤Update 18/08/10¤

i thought about a wavebird, it would make the case-making easyier, but i don't like the part where i have to power it with batteries, or find an alternative. I could easily put a gc controller's mobo in a wavebird though, but i'm kind of a jew inside and i just can't live with myself with throwing away a wavebird mobo if there is an alternative...

Best possible way though would be to get my hands on a wavebird shell, that'd be sweet

BTW Beta, if you have to vote, 1 or 2? i'd appreciate it if you gave your advice, i think it's worthy (ball sucking aside :D )

Update

Nearly finished my vac forming box, this project will soon be over :awesome: I'm gonna test it tomorow, right after i finished passing my driver's licence exam :gonk:
Anyway i hope i can finish before the 27 because after that i won't portabilize anymore (i'm saying that as if i already had portabilized something :D but really i haven't, hope i'll have the skills required for what i started :hit: )
