The thread of music, be it modded, retro, or normal.

I don't understand the hate on him at all.

There are a fair few reasons why people won't accept him.

A. He was in an 'emo' band, dubstep communities are tight knit and unaccepting to outsiders looking for a quick buck.
B. Him and deadmau5 make subpar music compared to heavyweight dubstep artists such as Joker, Rusko & Skream, who have been trying for a real mainstream position for ages and have been passed up despite more production experience and better musical knowledge.
C. His fans are mostly pre-teen girls and trendhoppers who are quick to call dubstep the next big thing despite only knowing of him and Flux Pavillion.
You forgot to mention that his music is bland, repetitive, basically daft punk but with less soul put into it.

Very interesting electronica, if that's the correct genre to classify them as.

Yeah, I wasn't sure, so I was just going by what some internet sources said. Since you seem to know better, care to educate me? Genres don't mean much to me anyway, honestly, as most of the stuff I listen to is completely genre-fluid or can be classified as multiple things.
He's Brostep/"dubstep". Electronica isn't a genre.

But he's not really dubstep because there are no elements of Dub in his music.

Are you referring to Star*Can'tSayThisOnTV*er or Skrillex? Because that statement of mine was referring to Star*Can'tSayThisOnTV*er.

Er, Skrillex. lol.

Star*Can'tSayThisOnTV*er are "Indietronica", which is Indie Rock with electronic elements.

Dubstep is supposed to be repetitive, DJs don't spin full tracks.

This obviously makes it hard to listen to at home, but it isn't for home listening much anyway.

Not to the average preteen who listens to it off of those overpriced beats. Especially when is MP3 @ 128kbps

Actually, Skrillex songs generally tend to run to shorter, 'album length' times than a normal white label printing, to stop them being so repetitive.

So my music collection continues to grow. Pandora is a magical place, in my humble opinion -- it knows me so well and it's recommended some fantastic things to me. I am so so glad I decided to try it out. The most notable recommendation is quickly becoming my latest obsession: Deftones. Holy crap I am in love with this band. I bought three of their albums recently -- Deftones, White Pony, and Diamond Eyes -- and I've enjoyed the Heck out of all three of them. I'm pretty sure this means I have to buy all their material now. I'm not even sure how to describe their sound other than it reminds me a lot of A Perfect Circle. An interesting thing to note having mentioned that: Maynard James Keenan, one of my mostest favoritest musicians ever, co-wrote and did vocals on "Passenger" from White Pony. Good grief that man gets around.

Speaking of A Perfect Circle, I bought Emotive as well. IT'S SO GOOD I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYONE SAYS IT SUCKS

Another recommendation from the most wonderful Pandora was Coheed and Cambria. Picked up IV: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness at the same time as Diamond Eyes and I really enjoyed it overall. I am making a note to check out more of their material.

Last but most definitely not least, I picked up on CD an album I've only owned on vinyl for years -- George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. If you haven't listened to this album I very highly recommend it -- it's absolutely amazing. The remastered audio makes everything even better, and the bonus tracks are spectacular. The packaging's really neat too. I'm really disappointed in myself for not buying it sooner -- every time I thought about buying it on CD I either forgot when I had the funds or had something else come up I needed the money for. When I was at Best Buy to pick up Diamond Eyes and IV I happened to see they had it in stock -- in the years I've been thinking about buying it I'd never seen it there until that day. I took that as a sign.

Next on my to-get list: King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King and Nine Inch Nails. SOON.

I really, really need a bigger CD rack. I have stacks of CDs all over my desk currently. ;~;

Cool New Artists

While I don't do much exploration in weird, different musicians, I always love finding neat alternative artists. In particular, just found out about Beats Antique because they played at Coachella this year (I guess that's still going on because 2 weekends and whatnot). They're kind of a sweet Traditional Arabic-DnB fusion. Give em a whirl!

I encourage you to post anything here that you might think is hip, but try not to make it mainstream junk :)

Re: Cool New Artists

Saw them live at Lollapalooza last year, they're *Can'tSayThisOnTV*ing awesome.

Awesome music in Sig

Re: Cool New Artists

Beats Antique are pretty neat, actually. My girlfriend loves them. They were playing a concert nearby in December or January but neither of us were able to go since the weather was too bad. :C

But, uh... did this really warrant its own thread...?
