The thread of music, be it modded, retro, or normal.

And funny you should post Hank III. I have that CD sitting right here.

And what I was listening to when I started typing this:

Here are all my music purchases this year so far:

Tool - Salival

A CD/DVD set with live recordings and every music video they released up to that point. Got lucky and found a copy very cheaply -- most used copies start around $60 for the CD and DVD alone, but I got them for $20 after shipping. It arrived most conveniently the day Tool stopped in Reno -- the first stop on their Winter 2012 tour. I couldn't afford to see them so it was nice to have something new by them to listen to that day, at least. (My neighbor went, however, and she got me a shirt.) The live recordings sound just as awesome as the studio versions, and the (at the time) brand-new content is excellent.

Five Finger Death Punch - The Way Of The Fist

Wasn't sure what to expect out of this one. I liked a few of their songs after running across them on YouTube so I figured I'd take a chance on their first album. Turned out to be pretty good overall, but I don't know if I liked it enough to buy their other material.

Star*Can'tSayThisOnTV*er - Reptilians
Star*Can'tSayThisOnTV*er - Jupiter

Very interesting electronica, if that's the correct genre to classify them as. Most of the tracks either sound like old-school video games straight-up or they're more traditionally-produced work with video game genes. Tons of fun to listen to and well worth the money.

Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites

I liked the title track, among a few others, so when I found it cheaply at Barnes and Noble I decided to take a gamble on it since he won three Grammys for it a few days prior. Give me something out of the ordinary to check out, at least. I ended up enjoying it a lot, and I gained points from my girlfriend for it since she loves it.

Skrillex - Bangarang

Went to Best Buy the day after I picked up SM&NS and grabbed Bangarang since it was also cheap. I enjoyed this one a lot too. I don't understand the hate on him at all.

Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine

Again, wasn't sure what to expect out of this one. Pandora kept playing tracks from this album, and while I loved the music itself, I couldn't really get into the more rap-style vocals at first. They grew on me, though, and the entire album turned out to be fantastic. Maynard James Keenan does back-up vocals on one track so it inadvertently became a part of my Tool collection as well. Album cover is disturbing as Heck, though.

Chevelle - Wonder What's Next

Another Pandora-inspired purchase. These guys sound a lot like A Perfect Circle and that alone was enough to spark my interest. Fell in love with "The Red," and since the majority of the reviews I've read say the album said track is on is the best way to get into them, I decided I'd pick it up since it was also rather cheap. Freakin' awesome album.

I desperately need a bigger CD rack.

War Is the Answer is a better album in my opinion.

Keeping the same format as above...

Rise Against - Endgame

Got this a while back but am just now noticing this thread. I seriously love this album and would highly recomend it to anyone who is a fan of the genre. Make It Stop (September's Children) and Survivor Guilt are pretty powerful, good songs. A Gentlemen's Coup is also excelent. Get this album. You won't regret it. (although most of the songs sound quite similar)

I've recently picked up on some Ratatat ("Classics" album), Pendulum and The Prodigy. Somehow I'm pairing that with Katamari Damacy music (Lonely Rolling star, The Prince and the Moon) and tracks from my animes (mostly Ghibly orchestrations). I've got to touch up on my japanese before I start to take lessons in University.

Yeah, I wasn't sure, so I was just going by what some internet sources said. Since you seem to know better, care to educate me? Genres don't mean much to me anyway, honestly, as most of the stuff I listen to is completely genre-fluid or can be classified as multiple things.

There are a fair few reasons why people won't accept him.

A. He was in an 'emo' band, dubstep communities are tight knit and unaccepting to outsiders looking for a quick buck.
B. Him and deadmau5 make subpar music compared to heavyweight dubstep artists such as Joker, Rusko & Skream, who have been trying for a real mainstream position for ages and have been passed up despite more production experience and better musical knowledge.
C. His fans are mostly pre-teen girls and trendhoppers who are quick to call dubstep the next big thing despite only knowing of him and Flux Pavillion.
