The phoenix cube! done check out finished projects

Re: The phoenix cube! 1/2/12 teaser vid inside

Ben, looking back through your worklog I noticed that you removed the filtering caps from the composite and audio lines on the motherboard. Have you wired those back in line? I find that 90% of the time wiring them back in line after I remove them will give a better picture and help reduce interference. I only had one time where I wired them back in that it made it worse.

Also, if you still have access to the motherboard to do it, sand all of the edges of the motherboard again to make sure that absolutely none of the inner layers are touching the outer ones. When I wired up the 2nd mobo for SS's XGC the first time I tested it I had terrible video and audio interference. I took the board and resanded the edges and all was well.

I noticed also that it looks like you have the Wiikey mounted right on top of the A/V chip. Try moving anything you have mounted near the A/V chip away from it as far as you can. Not likely this is the issue, but you never know. Interference can come from those little actel chips if they are close enough to other critical components.

hope that helps man, I wanna see this thing finished in all its glory. :D

Re: The phoenix cube! 1/2/12 teaser vid inside

oh, awesome! good luck with completing it.
will you keep it or sell it??

since it's your first, you mostly won't sell it. i know the feeling,

I'm almost done with my ZCP, just waiting for the wiikey + new heaven adapter board that i bought from hackmodford to arrive and solder it to my gc and update my sd card with wiikey fustian update from the serial on the wiikey chip.

can't wait for your video on it :)

hope all goes well, ben and thanx for all your info on the wiikey wring on the gc :)

Re: The phoenix cube! 1/2/12 teaser vid inside

Hmm, since nobody suggested it, try using thicker wire for the power lines.

Re: The phoenix cube! 1/2/12 teaser vid inside

This completely slipped my mind.

When I made my PMP and that last n64p, I took a few layers of aluminum foil, insulated it, connected it to ground, and used it to separate the two halves of the case. It reduced the interference greatly

I actually tried all of that already, I just didn't mention that I tried it. I'm just going to leave the video as is.

Re: The phoenix cube! 1/2/12 teaser vid inside

2 steps forward, 5 steps back.

The 3.3v regulator just stopped working entirely, I even hooked up a new one, and it will not work. It worked until I tried hooking up a first party controller, then I got it working again soon after, then I tried again with the controller, didn't turn on again, now I can't get the stupid regulator to work.

Ugh, this project is just so merciless.

Re: The phoenix cube! 1/2/12 teaser vid inside

That sucks man. Luckily you can get a few more regs from TI for free. :D

I had a thought about the interference issue you're having on the screen. In one of the fusion micros I had similar issues which I fixed with a low ohm (30-50ish) resistor bridged to ground on the composite line.

Another thing you could try is a low ohm resistor in line on the ground going to your screen. Say like 10 ohm or so. See if that helps.

Re: The phoenix cube! 1/2/12 teaser vid inside

YES! Well I figured out the problem, the 1.9v regulator had a faulty resistor and the voltage was all the way down to 1.5 volts. I bumped it up to 1.7 and all is good now.

However the interference in the video changed completely. So its got something to do the the regulator. Now they're thick vertical lines rather than the thin slanted ones.

I tried all the different tricks with nothing helping, including the resistor on the video line. Nothing had an effect accept changing the regulators voltage, so it's got something to do with the regulator.

So I'm back on track to finishing the portable I suppose. But it's still going to have to do with the interference if I can't figure out what's wrong.

Re: The phoenix cube! 2/11/12 update

Ugh another month gone by, I'm starting to feel like the old tchay.

I figured out the problem, turns out I'm pushing the amp rate on my pth08080 at about 2.1 amp draw. So I ordered some new beefier regulators and they should be here soon. And hey, maybe it will fix the video interference too.

Re: The phoenix cube! 2/11/12 update

Quadruple post time.

I'm sure you're all tired of my theoretical progress updates but here goes.

The whole system is up and running and I'm tweaking the controller on a regular controller to get it working before connecting to the controller.

The main stick is not work, I believe it's a faulty stick.

Second the whole controller becomes disconnected when I turn the rumble off, so I need to figure that one out.

Other than that everything seems to be working fine aside from the persistent interference lines.

I will order a new 3ds joystick and work on the triggers tomorrow.

Re: The phoenix cube! **MAJOR UPDATE** %99.9999 COMPLETE!!

OK ALL MODDERS LISTEN UP!

I got the portable done it was closed and finished working by itself. I was testing everything until the last point when I tested the memory card B slot. The gamecube suddenly turned off.

Again the 3.3v regulator stopped working, so somehow the memory card turned off the 3.3v reg.

This has happened before and after a little while the regulator comes back on. I'm guessing it's in some kind of sleep mode. so guys, it's almost done.

But has anyone ever experienced this problem before?

Ok everyone I had a mini freak out.

Turns out something is shorting the 3.3 to ground somewhere in my entire gamecube. That's why this problem has been happening on and off.

Now I've got to go over my entire gamecube and check everything to find the short.

This might take a while. *sigh*

Re: The phoenix cube! **MAJOR UPDATE** %99.9999 COMPLETE!!

I can't wait to see this think! Good luck finding that short! I'm really glad you figured out the problem, even if it may be a pain to solve.

Re: The phoenix cube! **MAJOR UPDATE** %99.9999 COMPLETE!!

Well after acouple minutes of prayer (I'm serious) I found the short and fixed it. All is well now and I'm collaborating with Shockslayer on the video. Expect it up in the next few days.

Re: The phoenix cube! **MAJOR UPDATE** Nearly done, Video so

Nice to see this is finally pretty much completed, can't wait for the vid!

Re: The phoenix cube! **MAJOR UPDATE** Nearly done, Video so

I'll be doing it much faster with my next one at least. But I'll just wait until I release the actual video first before I show the details of that one at least.

Re: The phoenix cube! **MAJOR UPDATE** Nearly done, Video so

:awesomemrL:
Can't wait to see this finished.
