It's time for me to make a worklog for this project. With the new mod ashen has discovered, I figure it's going to be a waste of time to make a portable gamecube as big as the wingman. So instead I started a new project with the wiikey in mind. The project has gone smoothly so far and is looking great. The case had not yet been designed but the overall size will be minimal. :D

First update 07/08/11

I only used 1 ground wire for the wiikey so you shouldn't have to use all the ground pins on it for it to work. Just quadruple check the adapter for any shorts whatsoever.

Got the memory card slots wired up and a video showing off some homebrew.

Exactly a month without any new progress, I've solved my trigger problems with full compatibility, full credit for it to hailraizer though,

All I did was use a bic pen and cut it in half, I drilled through it to clear out any ridges. Works really well.
Other than that I've been working on the audio amp and mounted the slot b sd card. as soon as I get my plastic and screen in. Still waiting on custom caps for my psp joysticks. EXCITED TO CATCH UP WITH MY RIVAL!

By the way I'm resizing all my pics to 1024 x 768 for all your small monitors out there.

Dang almost a month before another progress update, this thing is going slow, probably slower with school starting tomorrow, but I intend to catch up with shockslayer.
Forming the case is what I procrastinate the most on, seriously nothing kept me from making these over the past 2 weeks.

Well should be more updates coming out more frequently.

More work done on the case.

It looks textured but it's going to be sanded down smooth, the only abs I could get was textured.

Got some more work done on the case, the only thing left on the front now is the speaker holes and the low led light.

I should be able to get to work on that circuit for the wiikey soon. Other than that more work on the case soon.

More work done on the case.

Happy new year, time for one of the last updates, I'm very close to finishing the portable, maybe today even. All I've got left to do is some wiring here and there, then install the controller and it's done.

Only problem is I've got some serious interference on the video line, and using nice wire doesn't seem to do the trick. The lines are really bad. Unfortunately the portable might have to make it's finished video debut with a screen full of lines.

Ugh another month gone by, I'm starting to feel like the old tchay.

I figured out the problem, turns out I'm pushing the amp rate on my pth08080 at about 2.1 amp draw. So I ordered some new beefier regulators and they should be here soon. And hey, maybe it will fix the video interference too.

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

I already know how hardcore this thing is gonna be, and I really like what you've done so far. The way the regulators are on the board is awesome, and is that heatsink trimmed?

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

That GC board is looking pretty Dang sexy so far man. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for your case design!

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

Yup that's a trimmed gamecube heatsink, I wanted to use the original screws to hold it down, works really well. Played through a couple shine sprites on mario sunshine, works great.

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

Video within a video, VIDEOCEPTION. It looked like it played the video much faster than the audio. XD

I have that same player on my sd card aswell! :o

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

Noice! Yea the sync was a little off, I just used the first video format I had in my converter, I can probably use a different format and it would work fine. I just changed a couple codecs and it worked better.

I tried using a wave bird and the adapter didn't respond or light up, I'm guessing it uses the 5v line for power. I'm going to try the 3.3v line in the adapter and see if it works.

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

All this is making me want to try my hand at a GiiCeyP (OFFICIALLY DUBBED TERM)

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

What kind of case are you thinking of? Similar to the SL-68p?

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

I don't have anything considered yet, I just want it to be small and comfortable right now. When I had the starlight 64 a lot of people said they found it really comfortable for come reason, I may keep it cubish.

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

Well this is odd, I've got a problem here.

Everything about the cube seems to work perfectly fine, all my games normally play and nothing out of the ordinary except for one game.

Super smash bros melee.

When I boot the game and get past the gamecube starting bios screen everything goes. The screen goes black and white and scrolls up and down very fast, I don't know what the problem is, I'm guessing it's one of the filtering caps in the back I removed, the thing is every other game works fine so I didn't catch it, now I need to figure out which caps go back on.

Unless someone else has had this issue and knows what's wrong. It'd be a big help.

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

Wrong region iso? if not, I did have a few problems loading melee but after trimming the iso and using a better sd card that problem went away.

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

Possible there is a save file on your memory card where the game is set to display in widescreen/progressive?

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

Melee doesn't have widescreen(16:9) but it does have progressive scan. Or am I stupid again... I don't really know, but I do know only a handful of games have 16:9 and Melee isn't one of them.

Good way to test would be a different screen, like a TV or something.

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

I can try that, can't now but will tomorrow. I can try a different iso I suppose. It doesn't have anything to do with the memory card, I do it with or without it still has the problem. I'll get a video tomorrow if nothing works.

Hrmm... weird man. Maybe its a resolution switching thing? what kind of screen are you using to test? Is it the same screen you'll be using in your portable?

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

You're using the wiikey right? (sorry, haven't kept up with the logs lately)

thats gotta be a bad iso.

The caps shouldn't have anything to do with gameplay at all. And Melee isn't even a RAM hog (last time I checked) so you would have had problems with other games if it was a board related issue.

Re: The pheonix cube BORN FROM THE ASHES OF THE WINGMAN!

Great I'll get to downloading a new iso! Hopefully there's no hidden glitches in my board.
