Replacing D-Pad or buttons with tact switch

So I decided I'm going to use tact switches under a custom D-Pad I have.

(First clear diagram that came up so I used it)

What I'm confused about is the black pads that complete the circuit when the button is pressed. How do I solder on a tact switch to that? Will there be copper there if I sand it down?

Where those blue circles are, take a knife (xacto or whatever you use) and scrape away at it. Do it lighty, then solder one pin of a tact switch to it and then the other pin parallel to it to the ground, the red circle near whatever you're soldering.

Awesome, sounds easy enough. Thanks a bunch! Would sanding it be a better option than scraping with a knife? Or does it come off pretty easy

I don't know. I've never wanted to try and sand it. I know that you can though. You're more than welcome to try, but it's all your choice.
it would certainly give you more space to solder to.
