posibility of charge & play with 1 charger port

hi everyone.

Im chilean and this is my first post :D (sorry for the poor english)

currently I'm doing my first gamecube portable and i so exited :D.

searching and reading a lot i found this charge and play circuit http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=14089&start=20 but i though "this is not very nice and polite" so thinking a little bit ( i don't knoy much electronics) and i do this diagram bassed on CrashBash's Charge and Play Diagram

imagedata.php

as you can see there are 2 new components (charger circuit and a diode). the charger circuit is

the batteries that im using are

and the charger is

the diode are only for cut the voltage from battery to charger.

this is tested and working... but i think that is incomplete and we can improve it.
any suggest or comments?

That charging circuit is merely a regulator; it provides no charging cycles and doesn't shut off when the battery is done. It could cause them to explode.
I believe bentomo has been working on a solution.

why do people keep using this diagram
it's outdated and the 5v regulator isn't even needed.
