Wii DVD/Wiikey Fusion/WODE (sd/hdd loading) on Gamecube

Do any of you who have this hooked up have a Game Boy Player handy? If so, could you possibly try an image of the Game Boy Player boot disc and see if it works? I'm considering doing a GC/GBA portable and I'm curious. I don't have the GB Player yet though (nor the Wiikey Fusion).

Just tested this out. Gameboy player boot disc works with the Wiikey and as such I'm assuming it will also work with the WODE. Even boots my EZFlash III card :D

Awesome. Thanks, Ashen.

Edit: Question. I believe you can put emulators on a disc if you have a modchipped gamecube, right? Or can you only do that through the SD Gecko method? If you have a wiikey fusion, can you just boot the software from a premade disc image, or do you still need another mod chip? I don't know that I can afford an SD Gecko and a Wiikey Fusion. Nor a modchip and Wiikey fusion.

Kyosho. If you want to build a disc image with emulators and such on it you can do that and get away with it with the wiikey mod. You will have to build the disc to boot swiss AND have all the files you want right on it though. I dunno about saving using this method though as disc images are read only. You dont actually need to buy an sd gecko. All it is is a sd slot with the pins wired to the correct GC memcard signals. You can build your own or build it into the unit easily.

Hey Ashen, could we potentially have a master GC system that plays everything up to the gamecube using emulators (NES, SNES, N64, PS1)? Sorry if thats been addressed on the GC Forever forums. But could you use Swiss to play/run emulators? Or would we not even need that.

I'd like to have a GCP with a menu to pick what system you play, and then select the games. I don't know much about swiss, so its just a thought.

Yup ;)

Swiss is just the launcher really. There are lots of good emulators for the GC, some were really written to run on the Wii but they still work good on the GC. Here's some links:

Wii64 and WiiSX are still very much work's in progress I think. You can try em out but I wouldnt expect super performance or compatibility atm. It is possible to run "some" n64 games on the GC using the ripped emulator from the ocarina collectors discs. But its borderline legality so don't expect to find any guides on it on GC-Forever.

I have a disc that I burned a while ago that is snes9x formated for gamecube and has all the snes roms on it.

Works pretty well, I forget how it saves though.

Any idea how many GB it is? We could still save it as an image on an SD card right?

Thank you again, Ashen. I ordered my Wiikey Fusion last night. Along with a Game Boy Player. I know there's that GBA emulator, but it's not quite the same as having the real hardware.

I'm a fan of this site, it's a really nice list of 6th gen console games.

This one says it's an sd card edition I haven't personally used this one.

This is the one I used

There are barebone versions of each one, these linked ones come with 1542 snes roms built in.

Super jelly alert me if I speak too much of these "ROMS"

Well basically, if its an ISO that is the same format as a GC ISO, then I should be able to treat it like a normal gamecube game of its own and put it onto my SD card. its an 8GB card so I doubt it would be more than that. Someone more tech savy feel free to correct me on any of this...

EDIT, bentomo your first link just goes to your youtube video, FYI

Yep, although honestly, it'd probably be best to buy/make an SD Gecko and run them from there.

Yea, its REALLY easy to wire up a SD gecko... like, should be childs play to anyone on this site.... this site has good info on wiring up your own:

http://ngc.scorpei.com/GUIDE-SD_adapter.html

If you build it into memcard port 2 you can use the bootable swiss .iso available here: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/downlo ... php?id=351 (which only takes up 2mb on you wiikey SD card using a little trick we've found)

This way you can add/delete your own emulators/homebrew/roms/pron (yes GC has a media player) very easily and on the fly without having to rebuild an GC .iso file every time.

Oh. I had no idea it was so simple and easy. Excellent. I assumed there were some ICs in those SD converters. Guess not. Didn't know GC cards essentially are SD cards. Awesome.

Does this work in reverse, then? Can I backup my saves by using a spare memory card slot (which I'll have) wired to an SD extension cord (and then plugged into a PC or whatever)?

Forgive my ignorance, but don't both methods (manual ISO loading versus SD gecko) involve sitting at a computer and dragging files around???

How would the SD Gecko be more efficient than stashing those emulators/homebrew/roms/pron on a high GB SD card and pluging said SD card into your wiikey fusion??? Sorry if thats noobish, I don't know a whole lot about the SD Gecko (still trying to research it).

It means you wouldn't have to rebuild an ISO every time you want to add an emulator, rom, video, etc.

With the SD gecko you just read the files directly off the SD, without worrying about building ISOs. Just plug it in to your PC and drag and drop what you want to add.

This, pretty much. I dont like having to mess with building .iso's if I dont have to. Plus the limitations of GC disc images are 1.35gb. SD gecko holds up to 32GB. Plus all Wiikey images are automatically changed to 1.35GB. so if you have a emulator and a few rom files its a total waste of space on your wiikey SD card.

Sadly it does not work in reverse. GC memory cards have a few extra connections. SD gecko's just don't use all of them. Emu_kidid is (last I talked to him about it) however planning to add support to Swiss for backing up savegame's to a SD gecko. If that happens it would allow you to backup your savegames to PC.

Okay I think I'm starting to understand it now. 32GB is a lot. I'm sure when I start doing the actual software side of these hacks, it will make more sense. thx guys
