You can remove epoxy with a bit of heat and alot of patience. Get it freed up and check all your wiring again. Wiikrys can be super finicky, so much so that at certain times just having my fingers next to the wires/chip is enough to make it act funny.

Yeah I know it can, I've done it on my first gcp (had to remove the entire controller and redo it)

But since the mobo itself makes it so the wiikey works weirdly, I'm affraid this isn't worth the extra work...
Unless you are completely confident in swiss?
Thanks for all the help guys

Re: ThildCube (ZE) lyb's second Portable GC

Finally shovelling this project out of the layers of work, lazyness and other hobbies it was buryied under !

After having problems with the wiikey and the gamecube board, it decided to stop working completely, so I redid it all, with a new board. Now everything is working fine.

As I had a lot of footage but few pictures, I decided to make a video log. In there you'll find a lot of stuff, including vaccum forming the case and such.

I don't have many pictures but I'll try to change that in the future.
I've pretty much completed the insides, I now need to put everything together, I hope I can finish that soon enough.

Also, it may not look like it on low res pics, but the paint is pretty bad, I might redo it. And it's not the final product anywas, as I intend to make a few yellow tones and outlines on the green paint.

Thanks guys ! Also, anyone have input or advice on how I should set the batteries? They're Li-po's, and I don't know if I should directly 'glu' them in.

Re: ThildCube (ZE) lyb's second Portable GC

While waiting for some other stuff to clear up, I worked a bit on this, but honestly, I don't know if it will ever come to be.. baby steps here ^^

So I finally clearcoated the case, came out ok but with many imperfections, but I won't spend more time on the paint.

I checked if everything could fit

and started working on the triggers, for which I had very little space between the screw posts and voltage regulators...

(Those are sanded and painted "B" buttons)

And I also learned the hard way that superglue can seep into tacts, disabeling the contacts.. the fun thing is I only had 2 squishy "Z" tacts salvaged from controllers, so I had to go in there and clean it up... :neutral2:

Finally I superglued the buttons to the membrane and epoxyied in ABXY and C

And to finish I redid the heatsink to a proper height.

After all that , I tested the controller, which worked great. I also tested the whole system, as usual. But even though it had worked for like 6 months of not touching it and putting it in and out, the mem card decided to die on me... Taking into account that all the wires are epoxyied in, I don't know if I'll be able to fix it...

It's so enraging especially since everything else is ok.. it was so close to completion...

A lot of pictures for one post, sorry :)

I think it looks awesome. Dont give up!!! If you have to, I think its worth it to get a new motherboard for the memcard. It's almost useless without saving your games. btw, does this have batteries?

Nice looking portable there! Can't wait to see this on the finished projects section :awesome:

EDIT: Wait, is your fan sucking air and blowing it down? And where the air will traveling through the fins? I don't think this setup will be efficient.

That looks like a laptop fan, they tend to pull air in the top and blow it out to the side.

Yeah I know it's not the best but there's another fan in there also..

And since this is on hiatus, if/when I go back to it I might redo the whole heatsink and fan assembly.
