Tchay's Ccube UPDATE FEB 22nd, 2011p2p

It all depends on your case. If you want it thin and hulky the other ways like hail's, then use a rev c. If you want less on the length and width but can do with the height, go for a rev a or b.

Well, using a rev A/B does nothing new height wise. Both boards have the same thickness. The DD is the limiting factor for height. The only difference is you can make the motherboard smaller and hide the power board somewhere. With Rev C, you have the powerboard attached to the motherboard and, thus, you can't cut off as much. So its your choice, but rev A/B boards take up less surface area.

If you have a revision A/B board and cut it smaller but then have an extra powerboard, you wind up with almost the exact same surface area as a revision c board. ;) :p :dahroll:

Right, but with A/B boards, you can put that surface area somewhere else in the case. With Rev C, you are stuck with the width given. Believe me, I tried fitting a Rev C into my case back in November - didn't work.

Re: Tchay's Ccube __% complete

One step forward, 20 steps back!!!! UGHHHH

I was being dumb and decided to "add on" to my custom heatsink while it was attached to my motherboard (the one that I spent 8 hours wiring everything to, yeah that one).

I ended up breaking off a tiny capacitor on the back. I managed to solder another back on but with no luck. I would turn it on, the light would blink 3 times very quickly, and then shut off. I have removed all of the wires and will be adding this board to the graveyard.

Good news is, 90% of the circuitry and relocations is complete. Honestly, I could have this thing done a week from now. I am giving myself until July just to be safe though ;)

One more thing, why does everyone freak out about L and R??? Just use a mini gamecube controller (Madcatz, etc) and they do all the work for you. Very little modding needed :p

Use glue or cement to keep this back part in place. Thats all the modding required :awesome:

Just in case I make these external, I want them to be smooth

I've tested them, and they work just fine.

Sorry about your board. I feel your pain. ::3:

also it's not that people "freak out" about the L & R , it's just that the orignal's don't hardly fit anywhere. And yea I was going to use the mini ones like yours but I prefer triggers on the bottom of my cases not on the top. Triggers on the top mean you have to hold the system way up top with your hands making it quite uncomfortable IMO. And those won't work in my cases on the bottom. So I had to go custom :)

I had to think about it for a second, but I see what you mean, the do work great. I HAVE to use my L and R on the bottom of the case since its a portrait. I am going to have my L and R go inward (perpendicular to the case itself), because your pointer fingers most naturally want to go inward when you hold the portable. Its ganna be a tricky set up tho :dah:

Yea it's basically what I am doing with my Dreamcast portables. They will have to be at like a 45 degree angle. A bit tricky but it will work.

Re: Tchay's Ccube __% complete

Techniclly, couldn't you just take the madcatz triggers like the ones he has there, and glue XBox/ fighter pad triggers on top and monnt them on the back like Hailrazer did on his GCp?

yes. But Hailrazer had room for the triggers and they offer more stability since they cover most of the width of the portable. But yes, if you needed to, you could use the madcatz ones.

For portrait designs, you don't have a whole lot of options. Can't believe I'm saying this but....I think I am ganna be done with portrait designs for a while. There killin me. Plus I wanna change it up ya know?

Re: Tchay's Ccube __% complete

Murphy's Law

God does not want me to make this portable. I am convinced. I came to this realization after a series of lethal sparks shot out of the controller's chip and into my face. Although the exit hole on the chip was microscopic, it left a noticeable melted hole.

OH LOLCATS! YOU KNOW WHAT THE BEST PART ABOUT IT IS??? I WAS TRYING TO GET THE DOCKING STATION TO WORK SO.............I HAD TWO CONTROLLERS HOOKED UP AT THE SAME TIME AND GUESS WHAT!?!?!??!?! BOTH CONTROLLERS ARE FRIED LIKE COUNTRY FRIED CHICKEN ON A SUNDAY MORNING!!!!

:wtf: I'm going to bed now

Why are your controller extendos so long?

Makes it much easier to move things around in the case.

And uhh....Tchay...that doesn't sound good, lol. I would avoid doing work on that past midnight.. xD
By the way, nice choice in Dremel.

That's one more hour than it took SS to make his AG-64.........

Re: Tchay's Ccube __% complete
