I guess we'll be seeing you later, Tchay... when will you learn, women are all serpents. They tempt you, they seem to be all peaches and cream, till they wrap around and you and BAM! The ball and chain will never let go, until one of you dies. Good luck is all I can say....

Re: Tchay's 1st portable Gamecube WITH PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I will.

Also, forgot to mention, nice case. Is that a 3 or 3.5 inch screen?

thx! 3.5inch. It is my favorite of the 3 types of 3.5" screens (8/10 picture quality for 30 bucks! The only one better is 9/10 IMO and is like 50 bucks I believe)

Funny thing is....She and I are going to hang out tonight....

Re: Tchay's 1st portable Gamecube WITH PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still no sound or batteries? I can understand no batteries, but no sound?! Does it at least have a headphone jack?

nope. Its my first one so it is a learning experience. I will give it a nice paint job though. Then I will be all ready for my next two.

FYI - there were sparks forming every time I turned the thing on last night and smoke was coming from my portable. So I had to take out some crap and figure out what the problem was...it was wierd....almost as if my super glue was conducting electricity from a really small gap in the mobo. Any how, I scratched off the spot of glue and the gamecube functioned properly again (still without sound however).

EDIT - this is important: the reason for those sparks is that the inner layer was bridging to one of the outer layers. This is bad. This will either cause the AV to not work (or you may notice the screen showing psychedelic colors) or the board just plan won't turn on. Remember to not give up if nothing is working. After cutting up the board, it is a good idea to sand the edges of the board (with the grain) to smooth out any rough edges. Use the orange light from the controller port board to see if there is a short. It will light up for a split second and turn off if there is a short. Some times you can hear the spark jumping from one layer to the next, which is how I discovered the problem.

The only issue right now is that my X and Y traces broke so I have to find some other spot to solder the wires to because the buttons are already installed...Fuuuuuuu-

After that, I will start patching up holes and smoothing out the case with my ABS cement. Then I will sand everything. Then I will apply flex filler to the tiny holes, followed by more sanding. After all of THAT, I will clean with rubbing alcohol, and apply my primer coating. The paint process will take around 2 weeks I am guessing. If I don't get too busy, I could have this thing done in 2-3 weeks. Peace out!

bump!
now that you found that secret trace, are you gonna get audio back up and running?

Already done

Audio and video are up and running, and I have a battery on the way with a promise of 2 hours!

Re: Tchay's 1st portable Gamecube WITH PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it did at the beginning of time, it's just that us humans don't know it yet.(although the romulans probably do)

Re: Tchay's 1st portable Gamecube WITH PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GC portablizers, we need to have a talk:

Okay, so there are TWO reasons why Gamecube motherboards don't work after you cut off "too much"

1. you cut off the hidden sound layer without relocating it

2. your inner layer is bridging to one of the outer layers

The #2 problem is something I haven't told any of you about, but it is a definite problem. I personally use a standard Jeweler's Saw to do my mobo cutting. It is quick, easy, and cuts along a thin line. BUT, often times the edges of the board will be rough and parts of the outer layer will slightly touch one of the inner layers. When this happens, you lose AV or the board just plain doesn't work.

How do I know this has happened?
Hook up your controller port board (the cable that hooks into the motherboard in between the memory card slots) and turn on your gamecube. If the orange light, lights up for a split second but then turns off, then you have a short somewhere.

Solution
I am still perfecting this solution because I have brought my motherboard back to life about 3 times now, and each time I about crap my pants because it takes a few days to get rid of the mobo bridging problem BUT the best thing to do is to sand the edges of the motherboard (having your sand paper perpendicular to the motherboard and sanding in a sideways motion that goes with the grain of the motherboard). Like I said, I am still working on this to see if there are ways to avoid the bridging problem or at least cut along a path so that it won't matter if the layers bridge.

Currently, my slimmed up mobo turns on and works but the AV won't work. I'm not worried about it because I have fixed the problem 3 times before. Not to mention I scratched into my board in a few places to test some stuff causing the top layer to dig into the inner layer (which is bad) and I have only partially sanded those spots away

Once I have more time, I will sand the crap out of the edges and those spots I dug into the board, and then everything will work fine. Then pics (maybe :p )

Re: Tchay's Ccube __% complete

my advice: sand down the edges to stop the bridging, maybe that can help.

mako, did you read the part I had put in BOLD by chance? ;)

Re: Tchay's Ccube __% complete

no, I do not believe I did. Good day, sir! *takes hat and leaves very snooty like*
