Sam's PCp

win xp rules!!!

I had started to model it in solidworks. But at that point I didnt have any hardware yet, so everything was just guesswork sizes. I should probably finish those models now that I have the hardware, but at this point Im just inclined to finish it. And, for looks, think Sprocket64, but with a bigger box on the back. (the PC will actually protrude from the back like a cart slot or disc drive usually does. Im doing it simply for airflows sake, although it should help ergonomics too.)

I also "fixed" L4D2. I simply uninstalled and redownloaded it. It works now, although it does lag kinda hard in crescendo events, but thats to be expected.

EDIT:
I decided to check what voltage this puppy will run at. It is spec'd to 20vdc. It runs just fine on 12vdc.(boots up at least. havent played anything yet)

Can you think of any issues that could arise from running it at 12v? Like, is it possible it could overload some components from the extra amp draw, or something? I really dont wanna fry this.

Edit2:

I played a bit of Far cry 2; it seems to perform just as well at 12v. however, I am still wary.

Additionally, my RAM gets pretty hot. (it is OCZ high performance ram, so it doesnt surprise me)
I'd like to heatsink it, but its parallel with the mobo, so I could only sink one side. Ive heard that that can cause more heat to stay in the non-sinked side. I doubt thats true, but i figured I would check.

Oh yeah. Anyone know where Tchay got those teensy weensy fans he is using on his new portable? I could see myself using some of those.

Hay sam, you mind if I did the exact same project as yours? I have nothing to do and playing hl2 while walking around my house would be awesome.
Go right ahead. I can chuck some drivers your way and such as well. We could play on our PC-p's together. Just keep in mind, matching mine exactly will be very expensive. ($450 so far, and I still need quite a few things, namely batteries)
Christmas and my bday are right around the corner ;)

PCps are really cool, and it's finally possible to build a decent one for a pretty low price. I would absolutely love to have a PCp. However, knowing me it would be huge and ugly. I'm planning on getting a netbook or laptop, which is more practical for what I do anyway.

Good luck Mako, Samjc3, and Kyosho!

You get that much for B-day/Christmas? I get like 20$, if I am lucky. I have to work for my money.

If I do what I think I am gonna do, its gonna be 160$ for batteries, which means Im gonna need to wait for my next paycheck, sadly. Although thats only next week.

$160? Whoa. What kind of batteries does that get you?
Badass ones, I'm sure.

Thats what I am thinking at the moment. I may change it later, but those cells have the highest energy density of any I've ever seen, which makes em great.

And the're freakin' small! So your gonna' get two sets of four in series, and then put the two sets together in parallel?

That equals about 12.97 volts and 9400 mAh.

Just a wiring idea.

Your math is wrong, but yes.

3.7 x 4 = 14.8.

Duuuude, I can't wait to see your casework. What method of casing are you using? Franken, vacforum, plasitc sheets, etc.?

Once this is done, you have to take a video of you playing Mass Effect 2 in public, preferably near a Gamestop or something, and record people's reactions.

Keep up the good work.

I havent decided yet. I will probably end up doing plastic sheets, but I will do a double layer. Outer layer black, ad inner layer green. That way I can engrave it and stuff and have the green show. Plus I will round the edges so the green shows there.

Heck. Why not in gamestop? I shall endeavor to do such a thing. It probably wont be pretty though. Id be all sweaty and twitchy and flax.

Ah, nice. You should get a pretty good amount of battery time out of those.
Roundways 2 1/2 or 3 hours, I think. its plenty for my purposes.
Wait, 14.8v and 9400mAh? That's 139wh, isn't that enough to run a beast of a laptop for that long?

I am pissed off now. When I tested Mass Effect 2 the other day, I simply played the intro, because I hadnt transferred my saves. I finally transferred em, and I am extremely sad. Having people in your squad seems to have a detrimental effect on performance. And hub worlds also tend to lag alot, what with all the people around. I will try overclocking, but I just dont think this little puppy has it in it. That makes me want to cry.

At least, on the bright side, I have a goal for revision 2.

Overclock that Sega, and try turning settings down. That sucks, though, considering you're building it pretty much for Mass Effect.

Settings are all the way down. And I shall overclock as well.
And yes, it does suck. But the first should work fine. (I havent tried it yet..)

Got xpadder and my touchscreen drivers all loaded up, and it hasnt impacted performance, so that is good.

Something Ive been wondering:
I decided just to use the computers built in speaker and headphone jack, and do away with the screens audio entirely. However, I would love to have pushbutton volume control. Any Idea how I could accomplish that? Like, my keyboard has volume up down buttons. I want them, without the keyboard. And I dont want to deal with any microcontrollers or any of that junk. They take up space.
