Here's what I've got:
The smallest cut:
This cut is assuming we find an IDE pinout for the 79001. Otherwise, we'd just have to relocate the disk drive AND keep the DD interface chip. But, as you can see. It can get pretty small even with that.
Explanation:
The circled regions are regulators. The top left is 5.0v for the left USB port. 5.0v will have to be wired back in from another regulator for the functionality of any USB device (obviously). The center bottom is for the optical port, which is unneeded altogether.
So, a lot of relocation will have to be done directly to the processor. I've traced the USBs out to the processor. I've also traced both of the DiskDrive lid switches, power switch, and first memory card out. I'll make a better diagram and document the relocation points for each as soon as I get better pictures.

What about the big Sony chip on the back near AV?
I'm waiting for prices to go down (as there will be many slayed Wii's in the trimming process), but I've still got your wii. Its running fine right now, awaiting its doom.

Oh, right. That chip is the RGB/YPBR decoder. That's the only chip I'm iffy about. You can get composite video off of one the inside pins, but I'm not sure if when you remove the chip it will screw up composite.Tchay said:

Not to mention it would be nice to have RGB on our PS2 portables. Its a million times easier to obtain than the gamecube (no expensive cable to buy AFAIK) and it works on PS1 screens for those that don't like buying the aliexpress screens.

It'd be pointless to trim this small if you were using a PS1 screen. I see your point. I guess, if I'm now the official diagram maker, I can make different size cuts like Ashen did. One of them will include the chip for RGB.
I guess I just started with the OMGWTF cut.

What do you mean by "built in power supply?" Like, you plug AC directly into the PS2? Do you guys think this is a plus because the whole regulator section can be trimmed off?
Or do you mean something like the regulator inside the gamecube.

I reckon Ive got 2 or 3 79xxxs around here. I'll look into cutting them up for science and stuff. So far, hardware wise, this looks doable, but I doubt there will be an easy IDE interface at all. What I would, of course, love to see, is a flash loader that emulates disc drive. It is theoretically possible, and probably wouldn't take that much in terms of hardware oomph, if we can figure out how the data from the disc is presented to the EE. With that said, none of us are exactly marshallh, but hey.

Soon as I get some cords, let the games begin.
We really need Ashen and Zenloc in here as they are the wisemen of trimming. But, as with the gamecube, they may only jump in when WE show them some serious progress that is worth their time
