My own Gamecube portable ---> pre-cube

Hey guys. Thanks for your tipps. I will test it with Metroid Prime I think. It has rather good graphics and would bring the cube to its limit . But I will test it in the case, because of the heat generation in the case.
The fan has a distance of 1-1,5cm to the heatsink. I think that will be enough...

I am finished with the painting... and I don't like it that much... :? There are some defects (one from a little fly...-.-) that I don't like. I will post some pics later.
At the moment I am taking care of the controlls and the screen. soldering... glueing etc.
I will let myself be surprised.

Man, I can relate. I was doing the last coat for the top half of the case for my project, and it was perfect. Until the dog walked by, and some of his hair stuck to it. I sanded it out and repainted, but I wasn't happy about it.

A little trick I learned with the case: It doesnt hurt to use Bondo spot putty on top of the some layers of paint and then sand and paint over that. As in, if you notice defects in the case after painting, you can try to fill them in with some more Bondo and THEN paint over all of that, rather than sanding off several layers of paint to fix them.

It helped me quite a bit with my project

Yesterday I was to tired to make an update... So it comes now:
I made a few pictures for you. There you can see the results best:

I added some things and it transpired that I had no holes for the on/off switch, the 'ac-input' and the speakers...-.- whatever...
The controller is added with all buttons etc. The two rumble-motors are there , too . And they work like a charm! No rattle (can I say so?) from the case. I hope the rest will work as good as the motors... I had no chance to test it yet.
I added the screen-board and the accu. Thats it. :D

The next step will be the mobo of the Gamecube with the heatsink. And then I can reduce the case in its high. :D (finally)

As is usual you can leave feedback and advices =)
Have a nice day

Hey guys.
Since a few days of rest, I worked a little on my portable =). (I needed the break)
I put in the mainboard and added some cables, the memory card (1019 blocks), the power-led, the battery for time and date. I also soldered the controller to the mainboard.
Here are the pics so far:

So far, so good... everything works just fine.
But then:

I hope you can see this. The wire is glowing... And now the whole backlight turns off...-.-
This is soooo unfair...-.- Now I have to get all the stuff out of the case and make an led-mod... But for this I have to buy some led's.
So this could take some more days... Sorry for that bad news guys. I am at least as disappointed as you are.

Holy crap that is sexy! Dude take your time, you are amazing! Plus, the LED mod will give you better battery life. It sucks that the backlight broke, though.

This is really cool!

I would like so much to have one! :(
But making electronics things, I really, really SUCK (And I hate this. But making a NGC portable would be cool - Can you imagine, I have trouble pluging cables for a light. XD), I'll have to buy things too and...
Maybe I could try to make a NES portable first, or my N64 to give them a new life? I lost my NES CA Adaptor, I can't play to it anymore, it would be an idea.

But even a NES, I think it would be too hard for me. I don't have any competences in these. :cry4:

Sorry for my English, I'm Quebecer.

Good luck!

wow =) first time I heared about Quebecer xD. Do you speak french?

But back to the topic! I bought some LED's:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...349273&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_4467wt_911
I think they will fit good enough in the case of the screen...
But I have one question. I read about the LED-mod in several forums... and it shall be possible to get 6 or 8 LED's into the case. Can somebody suggest how to do this? And what resistors do I have to use?
Sorry about this noob question... But I really didn't find any answer... (or maybe the LED's are bright enough ... so that 4 LED's would be sufficient)

Yes, I speak French, it's my native languange. I checked a tutorial how to make a NES portable it look freaking hard. "Oo
I remember about the resistors, I had so much trouble with them the first time I hooked the cables to make a simple light... I didn't even knew how to put the cables; and I don't remember, I forgot everything about this. XD

I'm thinking about this, when you're making your very first portable, you should be scared to miss everything, your portable NGC won't turn on, and you lost your Gamecube?

But you usually do this with consoles that you no more play with them! Like my NES, N64, or my NGC (I play to it a few times, but I have a Wii, no problem.).

GameX, an NES portable is very simple. with the right supplies, and tools. if you already have a working one, the 'portable-ing' process because much cheaper and much easier, you basically just gotta take it apart, connect all the cables to the screen and the battery (wether that be natrual, or through solder, or through twisting wires and electrical taping them  ) then fit it in the case and polish it up! then you're done! The nes, being a simple system has not much more to it than that, but a GCP is a leetle harder. But BACK TO THE TOPIC!!!! Very nice work Pre!! I like what you've done with the fan!!! it's a good idea! :dahroll:

I used to only mod consoles I had an extra one of, but I kind of broke that rule with my XBOX. It works fine, despite all the nervousness and fears I had. Now it's TSOP flashed and runs Avalaunch.

One little update for the day:
As I said the led-mod is complete. And I removed the anti-glare film from the display. For the colors =)
No pics at the moment... I will post them when the case is completed again.
have a nice day
