My First GameCubeP
alright this is the log for my first portable gamecube.
actually my first portable, but im confident in this project
the reason im doing gamecube is because:
more powerful than 3ds
they sell gamecube screens and batteries so no worries on voltages and big composite soldering (ill just use connectors and stuff them into case)
Come on... its the gamecube (smash bros, wind waker, metroid, twilight princess, mario kart, super mario, four sword adventures(one player in my case),and Resident evil 4)
cheap to replace bout 20 bucks on ebay

so far heres my plan:
it'll be landscape, ill extend the buttons using small pushbuttons and wiring
i have revision a gamecube so ill remove digital port and ill remove the connectors for regulator and use 5 wire method to attach (i has some leftover IDE cable)
ill remove all ports on bottom of board and ill remove card slot B
ill remove the controller board and ill solder the single controller to the port along with bios battery and led, reset button (thank Kasar)
for controller analog sticks ill use the quantum fighter stick method
the screen will be 5.6" gamecube screen that has built in headphone jack, av in for seperate stuff, speakers, and the gamecube analog port.
for DVD drive ill extend the ribbons so i can place it on rear of console.
ill probably protect it with a lid or something
the c stick on my controller connects to controller with wire so ill extend that wire and place it on the other side
ill cut out the controller and place on case and use plastic cement or epoxy and sand it down then paint
case will come from polycase.com but need help figuring out which case exactly (i know some there have been used on other projects like ShockSlayer's Portable ZNWii)
for some reason the z button on my controller is stuck so ill replace that
I dont know where to place everything in case yet so advice would be great.
i dont care about battery life as long as its over an hour cause most of time it'll be hooked up by chord
if all goes well i will make more such as n64s and maybe a wii cause softmodded wiis are awesome!

any advice would be awesome!
No pics at the moment but there will be updates with pics
oh yeah and i dunt have a gamebit yet and the homemade method just doesnt work for me so all i have ready to go into case right now is the controller.
still gotta buy screen and battery

oh and random NINJA SMILIE! :ninj:

If you are gonna do all that wiring, you might as well get yourself a decent screen.....
Anyways good luck!!

with the intec screen, i wont have to worry about power going to the screen because the battery is fully compatible with the screen.
im gonna take it out of the case anyway. i dont really like the round board of the psone screen and the tiny soldering points. plus on ebay it would cost like 70 bucks or more

That screen says it needs 12V but it actually needs 5v.Also from what I heard, that screen dosent stretch the image too much and most people can't tell
Also that battery should work, but there are smaller and better options for a lower price.

im watching shockslayers vids right now and i kinda want the ps1 screen. any advice on howto convert 12v to 8.5-9v?

ok so the 7808 has 3 pins, in, 7.5v out and a ground. where would i solder the ground to, the battery or the screen

Edit: Ground goes to both screen/system and battery. Or just one. You'll have to have them all connected in some manner anyways.

Update!
Finally got the case open using a very unconventional method (literally used my dremel saw tool to saw through the tunnel leading to the special screws.
the bic pen method didnt work for me
and i didnt want to wait to get the gamebit in the mail. :dahroll:
i got the mobo out and i removed all the ports and the digital video out port as well as the 2nd memory card.
i tested it and everything works.
the next step is to extend the c stick to at least a foot away and then ill solder the controller to the mobo

ok. does anyone know a good battery? i would prefer a exact 12v but im willing to go with 11.1 to 14.8. i want at least 6000 mah on it. also it needs to be able to charge and use the gcube at the same time. if i dont find a good one ill probably just go with the intec gamecube battery which is 12v and gives an hour and a half of power to screen and cube.

also does the 7808 regulator work with 11.1v to 14.8v input and still output 8v?

As far as the 7808, it should take as low as 11v (and probably as high as 20 or 30). I think. You should check the data sheet for your specific 7808 since tons of companies make them. If it can't, you could look into a low dropout regulator. Or even one of those fancy TI ones everyone likes to make.

ok final decision on screen is psone screen and ill probably do led mod so i can use less power and trim just the top of the board.
ill frankencase together a zn45 and a jb55 (sound familiar?)
battery is still up for decision cause the cheap chinese ones are sketchy but the nice ones are expensive. if there is no better option ill get the gamecube battery because i can connect it directly into the power jack and screen with the 7808.

also one question, whats the easiest method of frankencasing. im considering cutting holes in the case, placeing the pieces of the controller and using epoxy (mighty putty?) to hold it and sand it to make it look nice and finally painting it to make it look one piece

lol i just noticed the meme smilie :awesome:
