So after a small break from modding I've decided to make yet another n64p, but smaller than the last one.

I'll start you off with one pic of progress so far:

Re: N64 portable worklog (name to be confirmed soon)

Cool, what's the deal with the cart slot?

Re: N64 portable worklog (name to be confirmed soon)

Ah, ignore that. I used a board which was going to be used for another project hence why the relocation was already done.

I'll be putting it back to normal though soon.

Re: N64 portable worklog (name to be confirmed soon)

that looks awesome just a tad bit smaller than my n64 Great job! good luck getting all that hot glue off the mobo.

what batteries are you using?

Re: N64 portable worklog (name to be confirmed soon)

I'm seriously considering RCP but I need to work out how I want the cartridge slot to sit.

Battery will be one of these:

I used the same one in my previous portable and it works great.

I'll hopefully have some more progress pics later as I started work on the front of the case last night.

BACK FROM THE DEAD:

So I started this sometime ago and never really made much progress on it. Anyway, my mate came over the other day and saw it sat on the side and asked why I had never finished it. So to cut a long story short, he took the back part of the case home and extended it make the case about 1 inch deeper while I worked on the front section i.e. buttons, screen hole etc...

So he came over last night and we hit the garage. This is what we have so far:

We measured, and measured, and measured some more and we're quite sure that all the internals are all going to fit making this a rather small portable.

The front is fitted with the standard N64 C buttons, Wii 1, 2, start button and D-pad and the analog is yet to be decided. I'm thinking a gold analog from a gold wii pad with the portable painted black :D

More progress soon....

Heck yes, it's Clarky! Hope to see progress soon!

Re: N64 portable worklog (name TBA) 17th May 11

Progress!

The cart slot has been slightly relocated as in its original position it sat too tight to the case.

Mate drilled some holes for charge and headphone jacks. Ignore the poor attempt at a vent hole. Fortunately the holes haven't been drilled yet.

Now for a look inside. N64 mobo on top:

Battery on the bottom.

Re: N64 portable worklog (name TBA) 17th May 11

The portable now has a little hat lol

I'm aware the top edge isn't straight but this will be rectified shortly.

Re: N64 portable worklog (name TBA) 17th May 11

The front of the case has now been painted and all the buttons have been fitted.

Speaker hole:

Vent hole. need another line of holes drilled. Other holes are for headphone and charge jacks and volume control.

We have also scrapped the little hat to cover the cart slot and have come up with a better plan. More updates soon.

Re: Baby64 portable worklog (smallest N64p Yet!?)

looks cool. but wont your hands cover the speaker holes when playing it?

Re: Baby64 portable worklog (smallest N64p Yet!?)

Thanks fellas.

Tchay: Not really, not enough to affect the sound output anyway.

Case has now had its first coat of paint.

Note the different cart slot cover.

Re: Baby64 portable worklog (smallest N64p Yet!?)

Beautiful. Whats the deal with shoulder buttons? L and R on the top, and Z on the wrong side of the back?

Re: Baby64 portable worklog (smallest N64p Yet!?)

Clarky likes to put Z on the right. Most non-Americans do. You'll get used to it.

Re: Baby64 portable worklog (smallest N64p Yet!?)

Your right I do like to put Z button on the right. Reasons, which button do you use to shot on Halo, Call of Duty, pretty much any shooter on the Xbox. Which hand/finger would you use if you were to fire a gun!? Aesthetically its better to put the Z on the right.

L and R are on the back at the bottom.

Re: Baby64 portable worklog (smallest N64p Yet!?)

this is turning out great! but wouldnt the R and L buttons be really uncomfortable to press?
