JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable V2.0

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

Do you still need those Contact pads? I've got a couple dozen...Project is looking great man!

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

I do still need some contact pads with the rubber membranes. I need about 6 small ones. I'll PM you.

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

I relocated the cart slot today. It didn't work first try. Odd.

I think my wires are too long. What do you guys think?

My soldering job is reasonably clean:

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

I was right, the wires were too long. I trimmed the board to exactly the right size afterwards. Trimming an n64 is like riding a bicycle, once you do it, it just comes naturally.

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

Where did you get that lovely coloured ribbon cable?

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

eBay. It is the greatest stuff in the world. I never have to worry about wiring mistakes again.

Search for "rainbow IDE" and it should show up. I got 1 meter of it with 50 strands for $3.

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

Is it solid strand or at least thicker than the crappy radioshack stuff?

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

It's stranded and the same size, but it is way better quality.

On another note, I think I'm going to do away with the cartridge cover and make it top loading. I broke the cover when I was test fitting and I'd rather just use my spare backing and make it smaller.

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

Got to work on the new cart slot tonight. Here's what I've done:

The plan:

I think it will look alright like this:

Again:

Extremely rough cut: (It fits though)

This is going to be a tight ass fit:

I will definitely be touching up that cart slot hole so that the game doesn't move at all.

That's pretty much it for now.

Edit: I free handed another end panel. It turned out better than the first one.

Gah, I wish I didn't watch that, your real voice is different than my imaginary internet voice for you. Looking good!
Edit: Quick question: will an untrimmed board (without controller ports) fit inside the case?

Oh no. No not even close. This:

is the bare minimum that will fit.

Re: JB-64 A Nintendo 64 portable WIP

Like your voice minus accent and slightly less deep. I feel weird now because I should have an accent too but dont.

Well I am one helluva a man. :awesome:

I have a problem with my board now. I had to trim into the P1 caps and remove the reset switch so the board will fit closer to the edges of the case. This allows me to have an expansion pak to the side of the analog stick hole. (if you need a picture or a better explanation, just ask.) But now the board won't boot up. I get the flash on the screen but that's it. ( if you've ever worked with an n64, you know what the flash is.) I also rewired every sigle trace I could find and I even soldered a new composite line.
Here are some pictures of where I had to trim:

I'm pretty sure his board isn't dead. I just think I'm missing something.
