GameCube Revolution ~ Worklog

But man does it give nice results. Casework is by far my least favorite part of this hobby for sure.

So yea, I've been waiting on parts for the Fusion Micro Rev. 2 and this is what I've been doing instead of working on my Xbox project.

Yes, thats the new design for my GameCube Fusion Rev. 2. It WILL have batteries, and it WILL be awesome. I promise, no excuses this time. :D

Re: Filing vent holes sucks...

Filing and sanding both suck, but it's so worth it in the end. Filling is where it's at IMO

Re: Filing vent holes sucks...

I'm the opposite

Have lost the ability to do electronics but could probably frankencase better than most, or build from scratch with wood.

Re: Filing vent holes sucks...

Going for the original gamecube look I see. Nice looking design. And he keeps on surprising us....

Looks wonderful. Vac-formed?

Yup, vac formed and slightly franken-cased since I just didn't feel like drilling/filing ALL the holes for this one. I swear to god, If I didn't have to *Can'tSayThisOnTV* with case making I could put out a GCp every 2-3days. I'm sure some others around here can attest to that.

I've actually had that mold sitting around for a few months now, and just recently got the motivation to start the work on it. It's a bit larger of a case because it was made with the 5" Dalian "good screen" in mind. But it'll work out perfectly and still be able to be kept nice and thin. 1.25" or less is what I'm shooting for depending on the battery setup I choose to go with. I'd like to toss in a 11.1v pack but I think it may make the system too heavy to comfortably hold for an extended period. So it may end up being just a 7.4v 5000mah pack... Hmmm.

Ashen's last pic I see something I drew.

SUCCESS

:D

Changed the name up a bit as the "fusion" moniker doesn't quite fit the plans for this one anymore. ;)

After much A.D.D. I've nailed down a few more design type things for this one:

I've extensively tested the 3DS nubs with an official controller and around 30 games, I can't find any reason not to use them, so yea. It'll have sliders.

7800mah li-ion battery pack. I'm still just not comfortable with the whole li-po thing and how hot the board/regulators can get. :/ This will work and give me hella good battery life. Only downside is that I won't be able to make it SUPER thin. It'll prolly stay the thickness it is in the above pics. 6 cells, almost 8000mah, *Can'tSayThisOnTV* yes.

WODE, nuff said.

Production resumes.... tomorrow. :awesomepalmer:

Ashen, you cwazy.

Probably, Really though the case is not THAT big. The dimensions are exactly the same as my GCFusion rev 1's. Just shaped a bit differently on the top. Very comfy to hold.

Yeah. I guess it's (probably giant) batteries necessitate that everything else be thin, otherwise a regular joystick would fit, right?

Regular analogues are way better. Proper range and more comfort and all that. Not that you don't already know this. :p

Yea, one thing I'm doing different with this portable is putting everything together first to test. Then I'll take it all apart, do all the finishing work, painting, etc. So if I don't like the sliders I'll just change it at that point in the process.

Got my batts today, so work can really commence from here forth. Also did a bit more work to the case front. Pretty much all the holes and whatnot are cut and ready for the front of the case. need to work out placement in the back half then start the real work.

Wired up my batteries yesterday and charged em to full. Didn't explode, so that's a good sign. Ran the Fusion Micro R2 tonight off them for 3 hours and 15 minutes till it died. Not to shabby, hopefully I'll eek out a bit more with this one by regulating the CPU and GPU seperately. 3 and a half hours would be real nice. :D

Other than that I've been doing some casework when I get a free moment, coming along, coming along.
