This looks absolutely amazing. I'm am really handicapped when it comes to mods of this caliber. When you post a final guide, I'll take a look at it, but I'd pay at least $200 for one, maybe a bit more if you were willing to part with one of your later models. This goes for anyone making one. Amazing job nonetheless. Which case is that based off of, psp?
Seriously man, if you want a portable like this, it will be more then $800

FYI, you can put a headphone jack on just about anything that has audio out, so I'd assume so.

I mean if it has a speaker AND a headphone jack.
You know, like your GBA SP mod.
Did you do that with a switchable headphone jack?
If yes, which one? I can't find any...

Hugo, the original plan was to use the iLuv mini speaker set hail did a review on. I got a set off amazon a while back for 20$ shipped. Sadly I havent been able to get the dumb things to power on with the system. so I'll probable just rip off the audio amp chip and build my own circuit. They did not come with a headphone jack. Its not really too hard to add one in though.

Aaaah the famous iLuv! :p
I thought about 3 possibility's to add a headphone jack.
1. Use a 6 pin (3 each side) slide switch and put the GND in the middle. Then put the GND for the speakers up and the GND for the headphone down.
2. Use a DPDT switch and just toggle between channels
3. Use the 'switchable headphone jack'. (Where the *PLINK* can I get one of those??)

You can get switchable headphone jacks basically anywhere, they are very common. PSone screens, ebay, radioshack, just look around.

Please help :cry4:
Need... To... Have... One...

hugo, PM members or make a new thread in the appropriate place instead of bumping this worklog. Any broken GBA's, portable game systems or broken PS1 screens will have a workin headphone jack. Any speakers that have headphone option.

Got the controller all wired up except L/R. Every thing is working flawlessly so far. Shouldn't be long now. :D

I gotta admit, my mouth watered a little. Reminds me of some of Turbo Tax's work, good stuff; wiring looks clean and professional.

Finally figured out how to get the iLuv audio amp to power on at system start. I should just start looking at datasheets i guess as it seems to save me lots of time and frustration. For those interested, just input 4.5/5v to pin 12 on the audio amp chip of the iLuv http://www.poweranalog.com/pdf/PAM8403.pdf that will get you power at power on and bypass the need to press the on/off tact switch :D

Only a bit of wiring to do now then I can close this puppy up and jam some MP :)

YAY!
I'm currently in Orlando, Florida on vacation in the WorldQuest Resort.
Do you (or someone else) know a RadioShack around there where I can buy one of those switchable headphone jack, or give me a link on eBay?

~Hugo

EDIT: Already found a RadioShack! :D

Ashen, for the wii classic controller board, are any of the resistors on the sides important? Or could I just trim it down to a small square and wire directly to the trace lines?

great progress too, you're moving fast!

Thx Tchay! I should have one unit wrapped up here in the next few days. Sadly I have biffed up the paint a bit while working on it. But its nothing I cant fix later. :D

I'm not sure which resistors you mean. Its been a bit since I looked at the board. I used only the buttons and such wired up to a regular GC controller for this unit because I wanted rumble but I do remember thinking how tiny those boards could be cut. When I get some time I can post pics of where to cut it. Or if you wanna post pics to clarify thats fine too. As for wiring I scraped the traces and wired right to them. It was a peice of cake.

I don't have a good camera atm, but the board is thin, but on the outer right and let sides of the controller board are tiny resistors between some of the joystick traces and ground, and to trim the board at all, you would have to remove these. But otherwise there is nothing but a chip and traces going out of it, so it could get pretty small.
