Gamecube Desoldering

I have to ask, since I can't find anything online about it.

What would the preferred wattage be for desoldering the ports off a gamecube? I had my friend do this before on a nintendo 64 with a different soldering iron than I have (impossible to talk to him since he graduated). Mine is 40W and it won't heat the solder enough for me to suck it all out.

using a solder vacuum will make it pretty much impossible to remove all the solder from the joints. You want a desoldering braid.

Also use flux or add a little bit of fresh solder to get it melting quicker.
