Jlee's awesome (*Can'tSayThisOnTV*ing) guide to buying a Gameboy Flashcart
Most Important Thing: You gotta ask yourself what you'll be using it for!
LSDJ, I R A MUSICIAN!
Then a plain-ol'
BleepBloop USB Cartridge will do you just fine!
These things hold 16M, which means many commercial ROMs won't fit.
But that won't matter if you're using this for LSDJ.
$70
BleepBloop Carts are Expensive!!!
Yeah, I know. But it's not like they're being made by a huge company, they're not mass-produced by the tens of thousands.
Deal with it.
If you must, you can try a
SmartBoy Cartridge, which actually holds twice as much as a BleepBloop Cartridge.
At 32M, it'll hold any commercial ROM.
$50
I wanna play games!
Grab yourself a Smart Card from EMS.
Old Smart Cards aren't terribly hard to find, but sometimes they can be unreasonably priced, often claiming "Rarity".
But why bother with those? You can buy their
USB 64M Smart Card brand-spanking-new!
It's one of the only cards that has (native) support for multiple roms, and at 64M, it'll hold ANY commercial game.
KEEP IN MIND THOUGH! These things are known to have serious driver issues!
However, you can get around this by using an old
EMS "Transferer II", still available, and totally stable.
$40
For any of this, I recommend two places above all others:

http://www.nonelectronics.com/catal...Path=2&zenid=b54fe49ab9c28ca36063e603674744bc
But why would I buy anything but that EMS Smart Card? It's cheaper than the others, and apparently does more!!
Well, first of all, let's scratch that "Cheaper" thing.
If you get one of these, and you have driver issues, you're in for a big, long, grueling experience.
To avoid that, you get a Transferer II, which is about $25.
That brings this thing's cost to more like $65.
Well it's still way better than the others for the Cost!! Why would I get anything else?!
Do you support piracy? Do you support Nintendo? Do you love your country?
EMS condones piracy, and designed the Smart Card with Piracy in mind.
The SmartBoy? It isn't even the design of the company who makes it! They used some old plans that were released FREE by some guys years ago. Of course they support Piracy.
What about BleepBloop? He made his carts too small for many games. He also made them with LSDJ support in mind. He does not condone Piracy, at all.
If you don't support Piracy, buy a BleepBloop cart.
Or, whatever.
