Cart relocation wire length?

I want to start preparing my wires so when my N64 comes I can solder the wires without any trouble. About how long do the wires need to be? And what gauge? I think the thickest I have is 18. Thanks for your help.

That gauge is fine. Whatever length you need to make it work in your case. Keep them shorter if possible.

Shorter is better but I have had more success using an old IDE cable. Your gauge should be fine though.

That's good for power lines, but for signal lines like the N64 controller you will want something like 28 gauge to keep the size down. You can use IDE cable for everything but the 3.3v line and 12v line.

Thats right, IDE is great for data. Also, is IDE good for soldering the expansion pack?

If you get the newer stuff that's single-core. You don't want stranded because the strands could come apart and short pretty easily.
