360 kernals, and other stuff. homebrew.

i got a 360 awhile back that had the rrod, and a bad disc drive. i fixed the rrod, and its all good in that regard (matter of fact, i have it cooled via two iceberq4 pro's).

however, i dont really feel like getting all the stuff to replace the disc drive, so i looked into JTAG-ing it, so i could run without the disc drive. (and hopefully copy games to the HDD via usb dvd drive). however, this xbox is running kernel version 2.0.9.9199.0 (read: too high to JTAG). i would like to get this done ASAP, so i dont want to wait for an exploit for the newer kernel.

so i did a bit of searching, and, the closest thing i have found to something helpful is the cygnos360 modchip.:
http://www.mod-chip.com/xbox360/xbox360-modchips/cygnos360-v1-0.html

if i read correctly, if i were to somehow get a vulnerable kernal installed on the chip, could i then JTAG normally? :dahroll:

I can't answer your question, but it's good to know that the iceberqs are able to cool even a 360. Do you have any way to measure temps?

Is this gonna be either a 360 laptop or handheld, Sam? ;)

holy crap, you can cool 360s with Iceberqs?! They're freaking 15mm tall!

EDIT, missing an m in "mm"

I believe there has been a misunderstanding.

You can't easily downgrade it I think, as the e-fuses are blown.(I have no idea what e-fuses are, though, other than the fact that after a certian one is blown during a dashboard update, you get an error if you downgrade.

it works, but its not pretty. i used since i had em. it sits right on the cusp of overheating. (however, they arent hooked down) as for what its gonna be, ive got this here 15" screen that i have no use for, and this here xbox, so yeah. :awesome: (odds are, though, that it wont happen. i never finish anyth) :dahroll:

 That's why I stopped posting work logs. I just work slowly at my own pace, with no worries about updating my progress every week.

interesting. im running a bare mobo, with regular PSU and video cable. it boots just fine with no disc drive or harddrive connected at all. no E74. no nothing, except a blinking power button. if i put the disc drive on though, it blocks airflow to the gpu and it overheats. but without it, i played just cause 2 (demo) for awhile with no issues. so really, while it runs hotter than is really desireable, the iceberqs do work.

I wonder if overvolting the Iceberqs might help. It could increase the RPM of the fans if they don't burn out. I know TI makes a step up regulator.

doubtful. they're already hooked into the variable voltage control on the 360. i dont think upping the voltage will help. they already top out.

however, a bit of diamond thermal paste and a slightly larger cooler and i think i will be golden. course, thats assuming i can make the 360 work the way i need it to.

Or maybe you could just 12V the fan, also, That chip, 2 NANDS, when JTAGed, you will revert to an old NAND, then play from that, also, if you host 10th lobbies, you will get banned, but with 2 NANDS, you just need to upload a new Kernel, (Ebay, I think)

i know i need to revert, but i cant downgrade, because of the e-fuse, or something like that. my question is, were i to get a cygnos card, and have someone install an older nand on it, could i then jtag and have it work?

also, this 360 will boot and run just fine with no disc drive. is that normal?

Sam, in a recent update Microsoft removed the error code the 360 used to give out when the dvd drive was not the correct model or when none was plugged in. Its not known why they did this, but the best explanation so far is so that they could repair older 360s faster by easily popping in a newer model dvd drive. As for your question on using the cygnos to jtag, your e-fuses have already been blown as someone already mentioned so it isnt possible, and if the cygnos would work, I'm fairly certain it would be much more heavily advertised. You'll have to wait for some new type of exploit to show up, or just buy Games on Demand games on it for now.

hmm. and i assume e-fuses cant be replaced, correct? :gonk:

so, who wants to sell me a working jtag ready 360?

Check out the Xbox-Scene forums, I'm sure there's some for sale there.

As mentioned before, if you update Kernals, you cant revert, Once you go black, theres no going back.

Anyway, Sam, do you want XBL? I have a Banned console right here, so maybe I can JTAG it and sell it to you. Catch is, I have no printer cable, which is required.
