They do. They own most of the development studios for the games they publish, just like most big game companies.

It seems that publishers fight developers a lot nowadays. I know they have some right to do it considering they're the ones who are putting the game out there, but it's really bad when you can practically feel the infighting when you're playing a game. EA likes to cut development schedules, apparently, and Activision is pretty much fascist. I think a bunch of developers left Infinity Ward over Activision's treatment of MW2.

Well, publishers need the money from sales to keep publishing. They can't just let developers take as much time as they like and delay all the while. Games need to be released.

Although it's not like I condone that sort of practice all the while, it's a sad case when a good game isn't an excellent game because a bunch of "what if it DID have this feature?"
