N64p Power

Hello everybody, We're sorry for opening a new topic, but since nobody seems to reply to our old topic any more, we'll just try it like this.

We've got everything sorted out for our portable, except for the power things. We're going to order all our stuff we still need this Saturday so we can start building as soon as possible. However, we still need some help before we can start.

We figured out that we're going to need 2 power jacks, one for wall power and one for charging the battery. Question 1: Are these charge jacks any good for both wall power and battery charging? http://dx.com/p/2-5mm-dc-power-jack-connector-black-10-piece-pack-124200

Next we need the chargers themselves. For the wall power we're going to be using a regular 12v power supply that just plugs directly into the n64. But what can we use for charging the batteries? These are the ones we're gonna use: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-7V-4500mA...US_Rechargeable_Batteries&hash=item4ac7d763f3

To continue on these batterys, both 3.7v ones have a circuit protection board, do we need them both? Or can we remove one circuit protector safely as they will ofcourse be wired up to get the required 7.4v.

Final question is about the on/off switch. We wanted to go with this: http://dx.com/p/electrical-power-control-on-off-rocker-switch-20-pack-134101 Will these be able to handle the current flowing through them, or will they just catch fire as soon as we turn it on? These questions might sound noobish. Which is no surprise, because we are in fact noobs. I hope you guys can help us out! We're eager to start!

I use the plug and jack from ebay screens for charging. Those jacks will probably work. To charge the batteries, you need a smart charger, 8.4V smart charger. Don't know if that Protection circuit is enough.

Are you planning on using SS charge and play diagram? Because then you need a SPDT switch. That switch should work otherwise as it's rated 6A.

Thanks again WatsuG,

We are indeed going with that diagram. But as we aren't using an ebay screen, but a zenith screen, can we still use that jack and charger for the 7.5v playing of wallpower?

Next, we need the jack to charge the batteries with the 8.4v smart charger we are going to buy. Are the jacks in the first post good enough to use?

For the protection circuit I think it will be the best option to remove both that comes with the batteries and use this separate one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Protection-...862?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336ac821de

I found this switch, wich I think is the correct one: http://dx.com/p/electrical-power-control-on-off-6-pin-rocker-switches-5-piece-pack-136480 Can we use this one?

Again sorry for all the questions, you guys will be getting credits ones we finish the project, especially WatsuG!

I'm glad I'm able to help :)

If the Zenith screen has an power jack you should use that one. Otherwise, the one you posted should work fine. How did you get a zenith screen in Europe?

And that switch should work, it look a little big though.

Well... yes... uhmm... We CAN'T get the zenith screen shipped

Amazon.com says they can't ship it to my location, wich I think is one big nonsense :S

Soooo, any suggestions for a screen, WITH speakers?

We've just ordered everything else so we will start building very soon, I'm just very sad about the screen :(

Oh, and yes that on/off switch is big but we like it that way :p

Okay thanks, we'll go for that speakers than. But I'm reading everywhere that you also need an audio amp ? I don't know exactly what that is but I assume that it's build in in the speakers you posted?

And for the ebay screen We'll just go with one of the screens on bacteria's site.

Thanks again WatsuG :p

The one I linked is an audio amp. An audio amp (audio amplifier) amplifies the audio, ie make it louder. If you would connect speakers directly the sound would be quiet.

Okay, I get it. We'll order the audio and screen tonight so every single part will be on their ways to us :D

I will open a worklog as soon as the IDE cables arrive, and start with the cart slot relocation, wich will be done by Mick.

EDIT: if we go with that ipod speakers than how to make a headphone jack in the portable?..
