Wii DVD/Wiikey Fusion/WODE (sd/hdd loading) on Gamecube

Sadly you are correct. For this batch of portables I'm not even gonna attempt to cut all that crap off that runs the controller/memcard ports. Next batch ;)

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

This is going to result in a disgustingly awesomely small GCp, isn't it?

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

by the way tchay? where are most of these dd wiring points? i don't want you to show me all of them (i have a multimeter ^^) but just where most are, ergo, is it fairly easily doable ^^

Here you are, brohan. http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?t=25027

It is difficult to solder to components that tiny, but doable. Techknott did do it, after all.

Yep, here is the same pic labeled with the GC pin #'s for matching up with the wiikey/wiidvd pinout in the white text:

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

btw, how does that affect power draw? i mean, with sd loading, no disc drive motor nor lens, must be les than usual no?

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

Correct. The 5v line isn't even needed any more, as all it does is power the motor. That means you can build zenloc's custom regulator without the 2nd PTH08080 on the 5v line, making it even smaller and actually justifying the use of 7.4v batteries.

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

Once I get all my stuff wired up I'll do some power draw tests and post em. I think Zenloc is planning to test this also, but he said he may not have much free time till april or so.

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

I did some thinking (believe it or not :dahroll:), doesn't the memory cards use 5V?

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

Hmmm... Yes parts of the logic circuits on the memcard and rumble circuit on the controllers run off of 5v. It may be acceptable to run these lines off 3.3v though. Anyone ever tested this?

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

I could probably try, as I got my board to work now :)
Turns out the regulator board was the culprit
I'll just need to run a backup of my save files first, just in case.

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

Ok, so got it to show up in the memory card menu from time to time,
but when I try to modify the save files I get an error message and the card disappears.
When I start a game i get the error message: "The memory card is damaged and cannot be used"

I guess we'll need the 5V after all

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

:cry4: Thanks so much for testing it before we all bought the 3.3v pcbs and everything!

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

Yeah, it kinda sucks,
but 7.4V is fine for me as my screen won't go as low as 3,5-4,2 anyway (I think)

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

I was just wiring up an original Nintendo memorycard and noticed that it doesn't need the 5v line. It goes nowhere.

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

Huh?
Thats odd...

What size do you have?

I first tested my original 1019 block card connected to 5V and it worked fine,
but when switched to 3.4V I just got error messages...

edit: opened the card up and found the 5V trace leads nowhere on mine aswell.
No idea what I did wrong, as the only thing I did was reconnect one wire...

But that's good news though :)

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

If I still wanted rumble, could I find 3v rumble paks? Or just use LEDs?

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

You could probably use the original motor, but it might spin too slow.

If you can find another suitable motor you could just attach an uncentered weight to the shaft instead.

Re: Wii DVD + Wiikey Fusion (sd loading) on Gamecube

So, I could bridge the 3v and 5v line in order to give rumble 3v? Will that have any ill side effects?

Also, thanks a lot for answering my many questions, Abb_eliten and Ashen!
