Why did the front Wii cover jam the disc drive

So i had the front of my Wii off for a while because i was opening it up alot and i wanted to see if it still fit nicely so i put it on and when taking a game out the two pieces of metal that go up when a game is in the Wii Shot up and refused to go down which made putting a game in the Wii impossible! I ended up breaking the disc drive trying to unjam it so im gonna get a replacement but i still want to know how it happened

For some reason portablizemii didnt work on the wii im using, i assume the wii was updated because it has netflix on it so that may be the reason...... But ya i found the mac address, put the sd card contents on an sd card and the usb contents on a flashdrive and it did not work. Software never liked me
