Using a laptop battery

Hi chaps!

I found this forum through benheck forums...

I'm looking to use a laptop battery rated at 11.2v and 4400mah (i think thats right...)

I've no idea how to hook it up and how to charge it either....

they're pics of the battery and what i believe is a protection circuit... I understand i need a pico psu to hook them up together... but i just don't know how...

also... how would i hook up a jack to charge it with the laptop charger that is for the batteries? it doesn't have the dedicated jack on the battery itself...

any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm planning to use it for a portable dreamcast... I know 11.2v is a bit high but if i can use this to build my first one i'll invest in proper li po batteries in my next project.... and there will be a next project!!! muahahahahahahaha....

planning on a megadrive and n64 in the future... I'd love to try a mame handheld too... but i know that'll take a bit more work...

anyway... the dreamcast is the goal.... I haven't got a screen yet but i'm possibly looking for 5-7" screen so the extra couple of v may help to power it all!!

Ah, okay. You don't need a PicoPSU. The Dreamcast needs 3.3V, 5V and 12V IIRC. The 12V line doesn't have to be exactly 12V- it should work straight off your battery. Don't quote me on this, though, it's been a long time since I read that.

As for your battery, I'm still trying to figure it out.

cool....

that's all i really need to get my project up and running... was trying to avoid forking out for batteries when i've got a perfectly useable laptop battery to get started with... would still like to add the pico power supply just for an extra layer of safety... I haven't sussed out how to add a charging circuit to it either... would it jut be a case of putting the charge jack inline with the protection circuit to pico psu? or do i need to build a specific thing for it?

will have to get a second dreamcast to butcher too mind...

also.... can i cut the metal tabs between batteries to solder wire them to give them more room to move? don't really want to blow myself up... if there's any more info you need let me know!
