"The Six Four" worklog

eh, still looks a bit crooked, but whatevs. If it bothers you, then just drill a hole as big as the analog, wont need to align or anything.

waiting for LEDs and mushy tact switches to come from eBay, so I've just been working on the rest of my case.

here are the top and bottom:

need to sand around the switch more, and the hole on the right is where the red power LED will shine through.
also need to file inside the speaker grills a bit more.

here is the back:

looks messy around the charge port in the lower right and where the expansion pak and cart slot will come out of, but doesn't really matter cause i'm going to cover them up.

here's kind of the gist of how I'm gonna cover up the cart slot and charger:

just need to cut that piece more so it doesn't cover the "z" button and cut off some other parts, plus fill in the holes. but you get a general idea of what it'll be like.

still lots to do, but it's coming along pretty nicely!

thanks, guys! finally painted the front:

the lazy part of me wants to call it quits and be done with this part of the case... and the ocd part of me really wants to fix up those few rough patches... :p

Fix up the rough patches. Trust me, you won't regret it.

yeah I just remembered that it's gonna be like another week until the stuff I ordered gets here anyway, so it'll give me something to do.

thanks man! it's krylon fusion silver "hammered finish", though it doesn't leave much of a hammered finish which is a good thing in my opinion haha.

still working on making my case perfectly smooth, but I thought I'd give you guys a little tease...

IMG_0786.jpg

just taped the buttons in on the inside to show what it'll look like when they're actually in there....

oh and the surface is perfectly smooth to the touch, the paint just has a "hammered" finish so that's why it looks bumpy hammered around the bottom of the joystick. looks sick in person though :D

heyyyy everyone. just took some pics of progress -- from my phone though, so they aren't the best pictures.

case may look really nice from this pic but in the next you can see some scratches and knicks that are noticeable in person (don't pick up the best with a phone camera, though)

here's a sorta side view of the unit with all the buttons now in tact, except the analog stick. the "A" button is a little too flush with the system, but that's just because of how i epoxied it into the case when i first started. definitely usable and pretty comfy still, but could be better.

aaaaand here's the last pic. just the inside showing the breadboard that the tact switches are on. for all the controller buttons on the front i used mushy tact switches, and for the vol and contrast buttons (the buttons on the sides of the unit) i used clicky tact switches.

hopefully will get everything done soon!

That start button seems kind of out of the way. It could end up being a pain.

nah, it's a pretty easy reach with either thumb. and i have small hands haha

EDIT: after fondling my unit for a bit longer, I'm actually going to retract my last statement and agree with you, progmetalman. While it is a rather easy reach with either thumb, I can see how it would become a pain if you were playing a game in which you needed to press the start button often to access menus or whatever.
