The Nitro 64 (some bad stuff is going on)

So, decided to put this on here as well as BH because... I felt like it

THAR SHE BLOWS!

Well, today I successfully wired up AV out and headphones. I used the plugs from the small board that came with the PS1 screen. At first I couldn't get the headphones to work, but then I bridged pins 5,6, and 7 on the small board and it worked. My question now is, how can you set it up so the speakers turn off when the headphones are plugged in? Does it have anything to do with pins 9 and 10?

Re: The Nitro 64 (It's a worklog!)

So, I got the headphone problem worked out. I realized that those three pins that you bridge actually have something to do with the headphones. I got those unbridged and everything was working good. But suddenly, after wiring up the audio for AV out, there was no audio coming out at all. I spent the next 15 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong. I finally realized that the audio and the ground were shorting out. I fixed that and it's all good now.

A few questions though:
1. for some reason, I can not control the volume for the headphone. It can only output a certain volume. Is there something I can do about this? If not, I don't mind much.
2. Is there a way I could make the screen not so dark when I have the AV output hooked up?

Re: The Nitro 64 (I need some help)

2. boost the signal, otherwise, you essentially splitting it between two outputs

Well, that would be good and all, but the problem really is brightness on the t.v. screen.

This is gonna sound so noobish but, how do you boost the signal?

I don't even know how caps work.
You press caps lock and the keyboard pretends to press shift for you.

IIRC the cap boosts it.

SS
Caps are like batts, they store electrical energy.

IIRC? what does that mean? I've heard it thrown about a few times.
If I remember correctly.

Re: The Nitro 64 (I need some help)

Caps are like very tiny batteries. they can build up energy then discharge very quickly. It's what makes LEDs blink and whatnot, but you probably already knew that. ANYWAY....

Well, all of the sudden, I can not get this thing to turn on for the life of me. The screen works, the LED turns on, I just can't get it to boot up a game. I think it might be "sleeping" so I am gonna let it sit until next weekend. I can't help but feeling that maybe it isn't getting the 12V...

Well, I just bought a huge can of bondo body filler. They didn't really have any smaller ones. It came with that little bottle of hardener. I also got some different grits of sandpaper so i should be set for casework. I hate spending money. Now I know how a new parent feels.

I still can't get the N64 to work. I resoldered the regulator and it still doesn't work. I did the rapidly heating rcp test but it felt normal after about half a minute. Again, the red LED turns on, but no video or audio is coming out. The PS1 screen flickers once or twice when i turn the N64 on so I at least can assume that it is trying. Any ideas you guys?

Do you have a later revision (7-9) N64 board? If you do, it might not be getting enough volts. Try a 1.8k resistor on your regulator.
Otherwise, I'm not sure what to tell you. :( Maybe your relocation is too long?

I don't have the board directly in front of me at the moment (at my dad's) but I am pretty sure it is a 1999. I would check that, but the thing is, It worked completely fine about a week ago. That goes for the relocation too. I wish I was more advanced in electronics so I could possibly find the problem, but I am not, so I am limited to trying things like making sure there are no shorts.

I have looked for one over and over again, but when i get home, I will look for one again. I realized I did the fried rcp test wrong ( ) so I will try that again.
