hey, does anyone know were i could obtain the complete source code for the gameboy color, and detailed hardware specs?

Um, what?

The complete source code for the Gameboy Color?
I don't think you quite realize what you're saying.

Also, detailed hardware specs, yeah, no.
Are none.

We do have schematics for the original Gameboy.
That's about it for the Gameboy Line though.

What are you trying to do?

well, me and my dad like messing around with the software for consoles, its a hobby we discovered about a month ago, we like coming up with cool functions for them and ive seen that theres a lot of cool stuff that can be done with the gameboy color, and to develop these apps, we need to know how the hardware works as well as its software and yes, i did, again, screw up my terminology. :( sigh... what i should have said to begin with is i need a site like this http://mc.pp.se/dc/, but for the Gameboy color instead.

Oh, you want to develop for it.

Well excellent.

I've actually made a handful of Gameboy Color games.

Let me start off by saying this though, 99% of the resources are dead or lost.
People haven't touched this stuff since the '90s, and I could show you dozens of GREAT sites, were it not for the fact that most are long since dead...

Here's pretty much what's left of the good stuff:

http://www.devrs.com/gb/

I've lots of old demos, and hard to come by tools, as well as documents 'n' whatnot that may be of value.
I can pack up all my Gameboy/Gameboy Color dev stuff for you, if you'd like.
Compiler, libraries, lots of code, demos, documents, tools, etc.

If you did that, I'd really appreciate that.

WOW, that is AWESOME, thats what i need on the nose. and just a random question thats come up while reading the forums, is there a halt pin or something on the gameboy color board, and if there is does it really need a certain instruction, and not just a small jolt or something?
and wow no ones touched this stuff since the 90's, man thats sad :( , people really should develop for them. great little device :)

Yeah no kidding.

Here's a nice collection I've assembled, docs and tools 'n' whatnot.
Lots of this can no longer be found on the net, at all.
It was a Sega to amass this.
Enjoy.

thanks a lot, id rather this thread not die i think this could be a great place to post new developments about the inner workings of the gameboys and new homebrew games and all kinds of exotic knowledge about them. may this development scene live! :awesome:

hhhhmmmmmm, seems to me that a lot more people were interested in this stuff than i thought. :). now i had opened up my gameboy color and found a 2nd variable resistor. i have no idea what it does or if i should touch it. heres a hi-res photo of the board

edit: theres a square little thing in about the middle of the shot, i has a place to adjust it with a Phillips head screw driver.
