robm's SPL (Sony Playstation Laptop)

Alright. Prepped the PS2 motherboard for installation into the case. Amazingly, the thing fits about perfectly, and there's still plenty of room inside the case. I'm quite happy with that.

Took me a while to get all the connectors off without screwing anything up, and making it look nice. I am in the process of letting the fiberglass resin dry on the screen case lid, where I filled in the stupid recess where the round DELL logo was. Once that's done, I'll sand, paint, and post pics. It's gonna be purty.

Things to do:

Find a network adapter and get it fitted into the case.
Hard drive, and whether or not a laptop hard drive will operate correctly with HDLoader.
Solution for USB ports.
Screen.

Edit: OMGWTF PICTURES SUCK. Fixing.
Edit2: Fixed.

Sheesh, 30 bucks?

I bought the one I have for my service PS2 for 15. :(

I'll see if I can find one cheaper at the same place I bought the one I already have. I might even say screw it and yank the one I have already. Hmm.

I am really liking this project so far!!

My vision for this project is to make the laptop look like what Sony would have envisioned, to make it look like it was a factory one-off. Hence the copyright-infringing name :awesome:

This is my vision for my projects too! We think alike ;)

Everything wired:

Ok maybe not everything, the motherboard and the controller/memory card board.

Thank you, thank you.

Question - anyone have an extra USB board? That would be awesome.

Alright.

Received a free phat PS2 still in the box the other day, tore it all apart (man, it'd been a long time since I'd seen a ps2 case that clean.) Power switch is wired up, going to be able to use the laptop's original power button ( :awesome: ) The glue's drying on the switch assembly as we speak.

At this point, everything's going to fit into the laptop's original casing with no modification to the case. I need to get my hands on batteries, a screen, network adapter, and a keyboard, and I'll be down to around 10 hours worth of work.

And... that should be it. Pics once the glue sets and I get the power switch assembly installed in the case.

GameStop had some PS2 Network adapters for $10 the last time I was there. I didn't realize you needed one, though. If you don't find one by mid-August, I'll be going to a GameStop. (I live in the middle of nowhere, it's 3.5 hours away)
