Question about voltage regulator

With a 7808 I'm not sure where you would connect the input voltage and output voltage, if anyone knew that would be a big help, Thanks.

If you input the ground there, How would you be able to have a ground output?

The ground from the battery and the ground from the regulator are the same, just connect the stuff to be powered to the battery's ground.

So would it be like having the ground Wire from the battery and splitting it and have one wire go to the regulator and have one to just continue?
