Ps2 won't read discs.

Yeah, the ps2 slim I got fairly recently won't read discs. I put a dvd in it and all it did was make a scary noise and make these fine circular scratches on the disc. What's wrong?

I've tried it both horizontally and vertically.

Well, the scratches are very fine, and there's a bunch of them. Would replacing this part fix it?

Try replacing the laser first, and if that doesn't work, replace the motor.
