Problem with Kasars Gamecube guide

Hello.
I've read this http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1654 guide but I'm having a problem with the part where it says : relocating regulator board more specificly the part where he entered an answer from ShockSlayer.
Here's the part im talking about:
For some strange reason the red and black wires in between the little board that has the fan plugged into it and the power board don't necessarily connect to 12v and ground; in fact, they can be the exact opposite! Strange how it works, but make sure to test that out with your multimeter. Its another one of those luck of the draw things; I've had cubes that had right polarity, and cubes that didn't.

Keep that in mind!

SS
Now I'm not a complete noon when it comes to nodding because I've read up a lot concerning this topic but I don't get how to check if the cube has the right polarity or not. I've rarely used a multimeter that's all.
So it would be nice to explain that part to me.

With the system plugged in and turn on, simply measure the voltage coming from the two pins. If you get a negative number on your multimeter, then you have the polarities reversed and that should tell you which pin is negative and which is positive.

That means that when it's positive the polarity is ok and when ist negative it's wrong.
So if it's wrong where should I wire these pins?

Sorry I think I said it wrong.
IF the polarity is wrong that means that I can't do it Kasars way right?
And if I'm right how should I wire those pins???

Well, if you get a positive reading, that means that the positive (Red) and negative (black) leads on your multimeter are in the correct places. So then you can just wire positive to red and negative to black. If your reading is negative, that means that you have the leads reversed, so simply switch them up (red would equal negative and black would be positive if they are reversed).

Basically, just match the red and black wires with your red and black multimeter leads. If the reading is positive, then the colors are correct. If it is negative, then they are reversed (black is positive, red is negative).

Ok thanks.
I think I understand it now.
Wow of all the things a multimeter screws me over.
Well anyways thanks :D
Please don't close yet. Might have a problem when I am actually trying to solder the pins.
