First of all, you will need a lot of tools like:
* Dremel
* Solder Irion
* Screwdrivers
* Hot glue gun
etc.

An basic Electric knowledge is not wrong too.

Re: Portable Gamecube......How Do i Get Started in Electric

read the stickies 5 million times

Re: Portable Gamecube......How Do i Get Started in Electric

Well, just over 9000 would be enough, but 5 million works too.

Watch soldering videos on youtube. Read through various worklogs here and on benheck. I would suggest reading worklogs by Mario, LifeofBrian, or Benheck for some good shots at wiring. Practice before you start working on an actual gamecube, or you'll surely break your baby.

When you've read a ton of the info available, practiced up on your soldering, and feel like you want to learn how to work with plastics, check out some worklogs by Hailrazer. His cases are by far the best quality, so try to follow by his example. Try playing around with ABS cement and bondos, puttys etc. and see what you're most comfortable using.

If you think you have those two down, make sure you have a good budget set aside for parts. About $200 is good to get started, but depending on other factors, you may climb up to around $500 in parts cost alone. Depends on how experienced you are (not breaking anything you're working on), what good deals you get, and what things you already own. In your case, you will have to spend at least a little bit more than usual because you need to buy tools. If you can, see if you have any friends or your parents friends have tools you might be able to borrow until you buy your own.

If you have some experience in soldering, have an idea of what to do with plastics, have money, tools, and a ton of patience, then you're ready. :)

Re: Portable Gamecube......How Do i Get Started in Electric

I'm assuming that you're talking about my Gamecube portable 2; in which case, buy a premade box type case(like the ZN-45) and cut out the controller plastics with a dremel, ect. Cut similarly sized holes in the case, attach it in using epoxy/ABS cement, whatever, sand and paint.

Re: Portable Gamecube......How Do i Get Started in Electric

Another thing that helped me quickly pick up soldering was to start with easy stuff. My portable n64 only required me to solder about 5 points on the motherboard, all near the edges, and not side-by-side.

okay i have no idea how to start is what im trying to say.....

Like we said, read the stickies. As in the the link that says "6th generation mega sticky." Thats where I started and thats where you should start.

Re: Portable Gamecube......How Do i Get Started in Electric

yeah read the stickies and to build a gamecube portable i would start out with something easy like a NES cause you need basic wiring skills, i dunno though people have done Wii and 360 laptops sooo good luck

In case you do not know what they mean:

viewtopic.php?f=36&t=793

Go to that link, and read the topics linked inside of it, one by one. You might not understand it all (In fact, you certainly won't), but you will pick up a lot. Once you do that, come back here and ask questions about things you do not understand.
