NintendoBoy 64 advance (Worklog)

The buttons aren't to scale. It may take a while to get the screen and other things. So in the meanwhile, I will work on the case.

In order to not fry N64's when building your first N64p, double-check EVERY connection before power-up, and check for bridges with a multimeter. (they're $10 at Harbor Freight. No excuse to not have one.)

Also, spend extra money for a weller or better radioshack soldering iron. I recommend getting a higher wattage iron (like 40W) as it makes soldering easier, quicker, and lasts longer. You can literally flow solder this way and make beautiful shiny joints with wires. If the solder doesn't cool instantly, you know it'll be strong.

Quick question. How do you check for bridges with a multimeter ?
You set it to test continuity (if included) or resistance (if not), then either listen for the beep or look at the display to see when it says 0 or close to it. That means the test points are continuous.

I ordered the 4.3 LCD and it should be here in about 2-3 weeks, also I bought a spare N64 for $10. About the case work, I don't out a router tool so I may borrow the tool from one of my friends or make the body out of clay or foam.

I wouldn't recommend clay or foam they both seem like they'd be really weak.

I am making the body and then I will vacuum form it. I probably should have cleared that up.

Oh, that changes everything.

My 4.3 lcd screen came in today, here is a pic of it.

My friend also gave me his extra N64 so now I am able to work.
I don't have a gamebit screw driver and I fail at the melting plastic part, so it is going to be hard open.

Dremel it open! Or melt a pen! Or grind a slit in a flathead screwdriver, and make your own gamebit! Or jam a too-wide flathead screwdriver into the hole, and twist it till all the plastic in the hole breaks!

After much consideration, I have decided not to trim the motherboard. I am thinking that it would be better to build a bulky starter n64 portable and as time progresses go smaller and smaller. So this means I won't follow my starting design and move on to a game boy looking portable. With the change I think it would look better, if the buttons were from the wii classic controller. I am also thinking about using the wii classic controller analog stick but I need to find out if it is compatible.

The N64 controller that I am using is the Superpad64 color. I know that it is works with the gc analog, but I am not sure about the wii analog. Can anyone tell me if the wii analog is compatible with that controller?
Ps. Would it also be possible to use the wii mote speaker?

the wii stick and the gc stick are/almost are exactly the same thing. The caps are even interchangable.
I thought so too after opening them up but it doesn't hurt to ask around.

Off of junk. MP3 speakers are a popular choice as they typically include an amp and volume control. Little portable radios have big and crappy (comparatively speaking) speakers. Any device that makes noise probably has a crappy speaker in it. But yeah, MP3 speakers.

if you plan on sticking to the modding scene, I recommend getting the gamebit/e-torx bits for a screwdriver. Really makes life easy, and its not like they're all that expensive.
