My First Portable: GCPod [5/6/13]

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/6/13]

Thanks for the comments much appreciated

Question: Can I use power switches from other handhelds? Ie. GBA, GBA SP, PSP, DS
Would they not support the current the GC draws ~1.5-~2.5

how could I figure it out on my own

Why not it's just a switch.
Thought it would have a max current or something
Switches do have a max current. I'd be willing to bet that they can't handle that much.

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/12/13]

UPDATE: 4/12/13

Trying to make an audio amp with a TPA6021A4, using my arduino for 5V. Ran out of space on that breadboard. need a bigger one.

DC ~30V Variable Power Supply. got this for $60USD, I would have made one myself with one of those TI regulators like the LM317, but I was going to turn that into a whole new project, making a case similar to the one above. so I searched for a pre-made one then I saw this and went for it.

new soldering iron, a cheapo knockoff of the Hakko 936

Coincidentally, they are the same brand, yihua.

I'm also making some progress on my case, not much changed, added speaker holes, more vents letting those dry, then sand, epoxy, sand, filler, sand, paint, sand. you know the deal

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/12/13]

You should use 3ds sliders. They are cheap, small, and work great

I have some to use, will use them if I can't fit the original joystick pots. I just wanted know what options I have before resorting to sliders, personally I prefer full joysticks. Although I love gameplay on my 3ds

Anyone ever used this joystick?
Probably not because its:
A. Big
B. Not an analog joystick, just a d-pad with a stick (think Atari or arcade stick).

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/12/13]

Started a little mix of the hardset filler and tested it on some scrap plastic i have,
this stuff is strong. wow

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/16/13]

UPDATE: 4/16/13
starting to mount the buttons and sticks. Yeah I know that screw on the -Y axis side is off, it's fixed now

Nice mounting, man :)
Your using screws with screw posts (tchay's method) nice :)

I can't use screws on mine, but I'm using PVC tape (black/grey) and epoxy on top.

Excited to see how it goes.

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/16/13]

little thing to show, upgraded my multimeter
now with kickstand

this

+ this

=

stand is $10 with "XDA"as coupon, has adhesive on the back, but meant for smartphones.

pretty stable for this purpose.

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/29/13]

Update: 4/29/13
Got much done on case, still though no filling yet, I had to mount everything and decide where everything will go which meant
I had to wait days at a time before I do certain parts hence the lack of updates, but after I set my switch shown below, my case
will be ready for filling.

Switch mechanism from broken gba sp modified to work with larger switch

As you can see, I wanted things that are mounted on the case to be removable, I also got some JST connectors so I can disconnect
some connections that needed to be connected from back half to front half (not shown)

Yeah you can see much over-sanding, and me trying to fix bad cuts, I now know what I should do now however,
thank the man upstairs

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/30/13]

Update: 4/30/13

Question: How do you guys protect things from getting sanded, other than being more careful? And how do you guys protect things from being
epoxied and filler-ed?

Anyway on to the update. Here is the front, some stuff mounted and my JST connectors

Probably noticed the red button cut flat on one side, I just barely noticed my mistake after I mounted the hole, it was blocking the screen from mounting

Power switch mounted, kinda works as a stand in addition to the grips on the back.

Back, showing grips and vent

Top showing z button hole, R trigger, SD card slot, and WKF button hole. I'm not adding a lid switch, this GCP is going to be my personal system,
and I don't play any multi disc games

Re: My First Portable: GCPod [4/30/13]

I would use some tape and just cover up the parts I didn't want sanded or glued.
