My 1st portable Gamecube, looking for any kind of help.

Ok first off ive never made a portable and am aware it can be very difficult. i am confident in myself that i can do it but realize i will need a lot of help.
The style of GCp im going for is a mini laptop style. i don't want a controller built into the mobo and want to use a disc drive, not a wiikey.

the thing people seem to start with is the screen. i have 3 options to currently choose from
Zenith portable dvd player

Next im going to try and get a battery, im thinking Li-ion, the suggested is 14.8v and more than 4500 mAh...im not sure where to find this or find out if i might have one. are they used for anything else?

I'd say go with the Gamecube screen. That has all you'll need. Though if you are in the market to buy a screen, get one similar to what the guy above linked to. Problem is, that screen does not take in audio like he is claiming it does. If you use one of those screens you must make an amplifier.

L R Audio is just left/right audio. For stereo sound.

Can you give me a list of the requirements for the screen?
I've been leaning towards the zenith because its the best of the 3.
these are some pics that could tell you more about it...

You can use the Zenith screen, but just keep in mind that when you are using a portable DVD player screen, you oftentimes have to keep the portable DVD player motherboard. Basically the screen just needs to have some sort of video in and a way to power it. You can't just go buy replacement LCDs unless you are willing to develop your own driver board for it.

This is your first portable, don't listen to them and start small, mostly if your budget is limited. Your zenith screen seems fine, you'll only have to solder 4 to 6 pins, and keep the motherbard, it'll be big that's all

i couldn't get the zenith open so i went to by back up and have it almost completly remover from the case but i have run into i problem...
the only way to get the wires connected to the mobo and lcd are separated by the hinge inbetween the case is to 1. break the plastic which might damage the hardware or 2. find a way to disconnect the wires without destroying them or anything else. suggestions?

I just don't see the point in using a full DVD player if he already had a screen that just takes in video/audio. It's not about really being small as much as practical.

The Zenith screen is a bit higher quality, but the other screen (which he edited out now I see) would probably be easier and such, but whatever, his portable. The portable DVD player will work, so yeh.

Also, I know you're on a budget, but batteries are definitely not something you're gonna want to cut corners on. Go to Battery Space and look around on there. Keep in mind if you're going to need a protection circuit as well.

And for your problem... I'm not seeing much of a problem. If you have to, just cut the wires and reconnect them later.

never cut wires before...how would i reconnect them, electrical tape? im new to hardware mods

You reconnect them with solder then cover them with something like electrical tape to keep them from shorting.

Do you have a soldering iron?

well if the video in is beside the audio in then just try and take the disk drive off. keep taking things off until you cant any more. also you should try to practice with your soldering iron. like on old electronics you don't want/need anymore, electrical tape is just meant to make sure the wires don't short

if u wer me what would you do next?
edit: im trying to figure out what battery to use and how to regulate the power. i have no understanding of watts amps and power based measurments...

also the batteries are not that hard to figure out once you have a basic under standing

Just throwing something out there but i guess soldering. Would be an option...
Joking aside, if you can't solder and want to get into modding, better buy a cheap soldering iron and get to it
