Legal to mod in this way?

Hi I want to mod an Nes/Snes combo console and a nintendo 64 console. All I want to do is take away the power buttons/switches and activate them with my own buttons or remote. I know how I will achieve this but is it legal to do so. First time I've really modded a console.
