Is the N64 safe to melt?

I need to open up my n64 and I was just wondering if it was safe to melt the plastic around the screws... When I tried just melting some of the plastic just on top of the n64 there was a bad smell and I'm afraid that it's toxic. I don't have any other way of opening it.

Well, the casing is ABS, to my knowledge, which, when melted theoretically releases Hydrogen Chloride, which is rather poisonous. With that said, I wouldn't worry very much about it you'd have to huff the fumes off of it to get any effect more than a temporary headache.

In this business you'll end up huffing more fumes than you probably should. Ventilation is your friend.
