How did I fry my n64?

So last night I relocated my cart slot. The board was fresh out of the console and untouched, I tested it as a bare board and it worked fine. so I pulled out the cart slot, removed the metal shielding from it, removed the metal shielding from the expansion slot and pried off the plug, cut all the expansion slot pins off, and stripped 50 24 gauge IDE cable strands at about 4" long. I bent all the pins on the cart slot out to make them easier to solder.

I soldered it all up and it went very smoothly, I had tinned everything beforehand and I triple checked to make sure there were no shorts and that every single wire went to the right place. Upon testing it lights the red LED but no video comes out.

So what could I have done wrong so that I don't screw it up again? assuming it IS fried...

Well post some pictures of your soldering. That really would be the only thing that would be an issue. You also did the obvious things, like using a jumper pack, and making sure that the game and jumper pack are in the right way? Also trying a different screen as well as game if possible.

Well, the question was basically hinged on the assumption that the soldering was exact with no shorts or misplaced wires, and all basic things like jumper pack etc. were taken care of.

What the question failed to account for was the fact that I was extremely tired last night and even though I triple checked to see if the wires were all placed right, I still managed to miss that I had one soldered to one of the blank pins in the middle.

so it works now, lol

Thanks though
