GC Repairing Where to start?

I´ve been looking for a mod forum of the GC and I found it viewing a video of a GC Portable.

I just want to know where to start to "try" to repair my old friend.
Heres the thing I turn the power button and only the fan is the only thing I see it turns on, the led doesn´t turn on and the AV cable has no reception nor the disc drive.
I´ve had the GC since 2005 approx, like 2-3 years later this problem occured then I just stored it in my closet and after like a week it worked well but then I realize some times it worked sometimes it didn´t(when it worked in this time I´d play like 5 hours straight). Last time I tried to see if it had any hope was like 5 months ago and it worked but then again like 30 min. of gameplay it stopped working (no AV reception nor the disc drive and led). Now today I tried turn it on and it didn´t work same problem as before.
Now I found this forum and wanted to know if you guys know if this problem of mine is repairable or where do you think I should start looking?

Thx in advance :)

I'm not experienced in the subject, but it sounds like something's amuck in the power hardware.

i would poke around the regulator with a multimeter, make sure all your voltages are right... other than that, try replacing the thermal paste.

My question here is where should I get a cheap multimeter I don´t think theyre 10 bucks lol, (maybe my friend who works on electronic place could help me) and where should I check the thermal paste. I mean wheres the cpu of the GC anyways I´ll look in the forum.

I had posted this same problem here about 1 week ago. I'm 90% sure it's the regulator, and you should try poking it with a multimeter.

If you don't have one, I think Radioshack has some, if not then try other electronic stores. They also sell thermal paste. Arctic Silver is great.

Ok after seeing how to Disassemble I´m sure I´ll start or try... I´ve seen diagrams of the gamecube and how it looks but I don´t get it wheres the regulator I don´t have the enough electronic knowledges to know where to start or wheres the regulator just give me a pic is it this part? And how should I connect the Multimeter to test it out.

I would go with the second digital (first one is digital, too). However, instead of waiting who knows how long for one to arrive from Hong Kong, I would just buy one locally. Pretty much any hardware store should have one pretty close to that price, and without the wait.

Okay then, that means that when you open up your Gamecube, there will be a tiny board toward the bottom. That would (I think) be the regulator.

Ok I found one in a local store here are the specs.

- Resistance: 200 Ohms at 20 MOhms
- DC voltage: 200 mV to 1000 V
- AC voltage: 200 to 750 V
- DC current: 2 mA to 10 A
- Built-tip type signal reading logic
- Built-in audible continuity
- LCD Display: 3 1/2 digits with polarity indicator
- Power supply: 9 VDC (1 9 V battery)

Will that work?
